Blue Boar in Ludlow is absolutely FANTASTIC! I don't often leave reviews but seriously, as I said to the owner (I think), a very lovely and welcoming lady who heads or is part of a very lovely team of folks at Blue Boar- 'I've ordered 'Home Made' Soup of the Day but this is truly the first time in 7 years that THAT is what I got delivered!'.

And that was 'just' the divine mushroom soup to start.

I wish I had the time to eulogise further but I don't, all I can advise is, if you are hungry and anywhere near to Ludlow Town then you are a fool to miss out on food at Blue Boar, trust me!

[P.S. - I have absolutely no affiliation to Blue Boar, it's staff etc etc and I paid full whack and very, very happily left a (hopefully) appropriate tip!]

P.S. - I've just had the pleasure of the best Sunday lunch since my Ma last cooked..... honestly, and it was cheaper than the flippin' Harvester which is just too surreal to mention the two in the same space..when you compare every single aspect involved with hospitality , service... everything , it really underlines just what a truly fantastic team there are here, from front of house to kitchen.

If I can be serious for a moment - the folks who bemoan the loss of the local butcher etc, of which I am one - YOU! Use it or lose it, seriously.

Quality of Service is sadly rare in England now, Blue Boar is truly an example of taking something wonderful and doing it with pride.

How the team manage that is beyond me, all I can tell you is that they do. Oh do they..

Do NOT come here, it's MINE!! Ha!

Thank you...

We had booked in prior to our visit for 5 of us, which was accepted and all went well with the reservation side, we were slightly late which we warned them and again we were told they were fine with that. Once sat down we waited for the drinks order.... And waited... Finally got a drinks order in and ordered food at the same time. When food eventually came out which also seemed to take a lot longer than it should I managed to order another drink, our 2nd set. This came out reasonably quickly, but then.. Nothing, noone came to check the meal was OK, noone came back to offer more drinks, we finished our food, waited, waited, waited... No offer for deserts, etc. We had to wave someone over finally after waiting so long we asked for the bill and that came out after a few minutes, but the longest wait had to be to pay! After getting the bill we were sat for absolutely ages waiting for them to come and take payment, to the point that we had 2 different people look over at our table and just turn around and go off to do something else rather than coming to take payment, the rest of my family got up and left whilst I stood next to the table to make it obvious I wanted to pay where I waited even longer, I eventually had to go to the bar to pay where they didn't even mention the wait. The food was great but it is not worth being ignored whilst trying to...

Food was ok..not special but ok...service like in all the places we went to in Ludlow was a bit strange...not sure if they all are related or its just half way down to the totally ignorant southerners...or if Covid has effected them differently to us northerners...dont like to be a critic because I've travel and worked all over the world and consider myself quite a good judge of character but God knows what's wrong with most of our southerners and this small spot on the map Ludlow...I mean Ludlow is great..plenty of things to do and see..Great historic little medieval town...but most of the people that run and own the bars and especially our lovely little hotel are just weird..come across as special..God bless them...odd creatures...anyway...lovely little place but don't be offended by the way they come across..like I said....something must be in the water..manners and politeness gets you a vacant Ludlow stare..but hey ho..definitely come back but at least I know what to expect..no harm done.. 5 out of 5 for Ludlow Town.. 1 or 2 out of 5 for...

I ummed and aahed between a 3* and 4*, because it was generally good, but it wasn't very good and there are far better food and beer options in Ludlow. They could have done a few things better. We had 3 courses here. The starters were okay. A very nicely done chorizo scotch egg and an okay terrine. The terrine was bought in rather than made on site which was a bit disappointing, and it was fine. We both had scampi for main, and it was okay but not great. The chips were really lacking. I think it was ÂŁ16.50. For that price, the chips should be brilliant and the scampi crispy. Puddings were pretty disappointing. Crumble was lacking in flavour, so heavy on the crumble relative to the fruit and they felt either rushed if homemade or bought in. Beer selection was good but not as local or as wide ranging a choice as elsewhere in Ludlow. And finally... it was bloody cold! Everyone in the whole room had coats on. The radiators was off and it was cold.

Went to this lovely pub yesterday for some lunch. From the outside it looks lovely but on the inside it has a cross between old decor and items from the past - all of which shouldn’t put you off! (But I think it could do with updating). The two females serving drinks and handing out the food were pleasant. This pub allows dogs in the front, if we knew we would have brought our dog. The menu has a reasonable section and reasonably priced. The food it self is absolutely Delicious! The home cooked chips are bang on! Even though they were busy food was still brought out quickly. Will definitely be going back again and highly recommended if you’re ever in Ludlow

Flat Eric came here twice with us in the " year the world went insane" aka 2020. We like the pub as it has a Cask Marque for the 4 real ales on handpump. I had the Hobson's Town Crier golden ale. They also sell the rare Three Tuns brewery beer from Bishop's Castle. Several dark rooms plus a lovely rear courtyard. A pub also selling food at lunchtime and evening from 6pm. Never eaten here but will give it 5* for the beer. Ic and Flic still on wine.
