Never have I been made to feel so small by a member of staff before. The barmaid knew that dietary requirements meant that I was only able to order chips. She had made a flippant "joking" comment which I brushed off as poor banter. I then returned to the bar to enquire if she knew if there was milk in the gravy, to which she "jokingly" respond "oh your a pain arent you". Again I brushed this off but reassured that milk powder is in alot of gravy and please would she be able to check for me. I was met with a "yeah okay then". When the £3 side of chips came, it was enough for a side for a child, and considering she was aware it was my main I was unhappy that I hadn't been informed of its size. I asked if there was a chance I could have more as my friends meals had chips as a side that was double my portion. I didn't want to kick up a fuss, just a few more chips. What came after shocked me and was rather belittling. I was met with an aggressive tone, stating that "well I dont dictate the size of the portions, you chose to have chips and nothing else" (previously mentioned she was aware I could only order chips as she commented on it whilst ordering) It then unfortunately continued to be blamed on me, and shouted at infront of the pub. I was also called a liar when I mentioned that she had made a joke about my diet requirement of which I wasn't being fussy, I understood they had nothing but chips so ordered that. My 4 friends all ordered full meals and were also shocked at the way she spoke to me. Awful service, how this woman still has a job...
Read moreMy partner and I came to Ludlow for a weekend and wandered into this pub to eat on a Friday night. We had the fish and chips and the pork belly draft respectively. OMG! The proportions were very, very generous and we both struggled to finish but the quality of the food meant that it would have been a criminal waste not to. The pork.melted in the mouth with the crackling done just enough to be crisp and cruchy but not hard. Deserts were available and, refreshingly, there was more than one vegan option to choose from. Sadly there was no room left to fit one in! The Guiness and Rosé wine were of equal quality too and prices were more than reasonable. On the second night we wandered back in, having already eaten, had a couple of drinks and I managed my longed for desert this time. The landlord/duty manager apologised for the Guinness being a bit gassy and gave my partner an extra quarter pint to take to the table to top up with. Twice. He also offered to bring me a fresh coffee in case the one I had on the table had cooled too much whilst waiting for my desert. They were very busy at this time. The staff were all polite and friendly and clearly had customer service at the forefront of their minds. Definitely eating here again when we come...
Read moreThis is a pub that is more than twice the age of the USA! And it looks it from both the outside AND the inside. Mind you that's no bad thing, it is Grade 2 listed after all. However, it does strike me curious that no dogs are allowed in the "Restaurant" area, when the very word gives you the impression of table cloths and candles, rather that reality which is nearer to spit and sawdust.
I'm sure that back in the day, you could have brought your sheepdog in ... along with its flock of sheep and no one would have cared a fig.
My wife and I had a week-day lunch. We kept it light .... a selection of starters ... à la tapas. Really good and tasty and was as described on the menu. I did notice that most of the main dishes featured, "Chunky Chips". I personally think that unless they are triple cooked, they are the work of the devil! I would rather have French Fries style chips, less heartburn.
The meals that were being served to the other diners, came out of the kitchen at a great rate of knots and appeared to be tasty looking. They also had a great selection of tasty beers.
The gentleman on the bar and the lady waitressing were extremely friendly and attentive.
I would definitely...
