Visited this place one evening to grab some food with a friend. Bunsik is based in Manchester City Centre. Very convenient if you’re coming via public transport. I googled ‘halal food near me’ and this place came up. When we arrived, I asked the server if the food was halal and she confirmed it is 👍🏼 We came at 6.30pm on Tuesday. It wasn’t very busy, however it got busier the longer we were there. We ordered the Dakgangjeong Cup Bap and Chicken Bibimbap. One of our meals came before the other, but we wanted to eat together so we waited. The food is ready-made, it just needs to be assembled upon ordering. I understand the staff were quite busy, perhaps taking phone call orders as well as front-door orders. The Dakgangjeong Cup Bap had tasty crispy chicken that was slightly spicy, fresh veggies that were thinly sliced, and noodles in a brown savoury-sweet sauce. The Chicken Bibimbap had chicken that tasted quite plain, a lot more veggies, and a pan-fried egg at the bottom (rather than on top). It also came with Bibimbap sauce. It’s a red, bittersweet and spicy sauce, and absolutely delicious! We both shared it. This place doesn’t offer student discounts, however the portion size of our meals were decent for the price. Requesting for the food to be made more fresh would probably be unfair as they make big batches and serve what they can. Plus we visited in the evening food rush hour. Overall, we had a lovely experience at Bunsik, and I would recommend it to others looking for fast, tasty and halal food.

A must place to visit for Korean street food in Manchester. - Directions: It was slightly tricky to find this place as it was hidden behind the cement walls - if you are ever lost, go into the middle of Piccadilly Garden and look around, then you will not miss it! (And you will see why you cannot see it from the tram station.) Kimbab, Korean hotdog, Ramen, Korean chicken… you name it and you will get some nice food. There used to be a very long queue when the shop just opened but it seems to have calmed down a little bit as of 4 Aug 2023. (We waited for about 15 mins.) The music was slightly too loud inside and it was hard to have a conversation but if you focus on your food it is not so bad. That said, partly due to the music and the ambience, the staff members seemed to struggle to shout out the order number when the food comes out. A suggestion: Currently, when the food is ready, the order number is shown on a small screen only once and a lot of people seem to miss it - probably due to what they are occupied by and also partly due to the loud music inside. Once the order number disappears from the screen, people would not be able to know whether their food has come out or not. So what is needed here is a larger screen where they display all the food that have recently come out for the last few minutes and not picked up, so that people can keep track of their food - just like the ones that you find at McDonald’s or Burger King.

Wanted to try this place for a long time however never found the time and they offer so little vegan options so couldn't come last time with my friend (who is a vegan). Ordered the original Tteokbokki and a normal bubble tea, of course having high expectations of the food I was hoping to enjoy it. However, when having it, it was extremely spicy to the point of it just being spicy for the sake of it and having no flavour what's so ever. My tongue felt like it was going to fall off!! and the only thing that helped was the bubble tea that also wasn't very nice. In the end, I managed to eat five pieces of rice cakes until I couldn't no more and the only thing good about the dish was the three fish cakes I "fished" out of it. Service was friendly and good, however the food was definitely a let down, of course I haven't tried the other options yet but will try in future to get a full over view of the place. As you can see the picture is of the tteokbokki after trying to finish it (obviously I left most of it as it was like a fire ball inside my mouth) Hope this helps with anyone that visits, and to the kitchen staff who make the food, maybe tone down on the spice for some of us out there, many thanks dudes.

Located in the heart of Manchester, Bunsik is a vibrant spot that brings the flavors of Korean street food to the city. Specializing in quick bites and casual dining, the restaurant captures the essence of Korean cuisine with a modern twist.

Atmosphere: The interior of Bunsik is lively and welcoming, with a mix of traditional Korean elements and contemporary design. The space is compact but well-utilized, giving it a cozy and bustling vibe. The seating is functional, catering to both solo diners and small groups, making it ideal for a quick lunch or a casual dinner.

Food: Bunsik's menu focuses on classic Korean street food, with an emphasis on items like corn dogs, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and gimbap (Korean sushi rolls). The corn dogs are a must-try, offering a crispy outer layer with various fillings, from classic cheese to more adventurous options like squid ink. They are generously sized and perfectly fried, striking a balance between crunch and chewiness.

The tteokbokki is another highlight, with its chewy rice cakes coated in a spicy and slightly sweet gochujang (Korean chili paste) sauce. The dish is comforting and full of flavor, with just the right amount of heat to make it satisfying without overwhelming the palate.

For a lighter option, the gimbap is fresh and flavorful, with fillings like pickled radish, spinach, and crab stick wrapped in seasoned rice and seaweed. It’s a great option for those who prefer something less spicy but still full of authentic Korean taste.

Service: The staff at Bunsik are friendly and efficient, ensuring a quick turnaround even during busy periods. While the service is more casual, in line with the street food concept, it doesn’t compromise on attentiveness or warmth.

Value for Money: Bunsik offers good value for money, with portions that are generous without being overwhelming. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the ingredients and the authenticity of the flavors.

Overall: Bunsik is a great addition to Manchester's food scene, offering a taste of Korea that's both authentic and accessible. Whether you’re craving a hearty snack or a full meal, Bunsik delivers on flavor and experience, making it a go-to spot for anyone looking to explore Korean street food. Highly recommended for both newcomers to Korean cuisine and...

Been planning to visit since we heard about it opening & we were pretty disappointed, 1st tip for new visitors, NEVER go on a Saturday night! Queue out the door, which is to be expected with a popular place I suppose but their system of dealing with customers & orders is atrocious, 2 servers, 1 till you can't see the menu board & if you're not eloquent with pronunciation of other languages it is a nightmare giving your order, on top of that they are rushing you to wrap the order up which is fair enough at busy times but getting what we wanted to try was hard work & we didnt get half of what we wanted, asking questions is an absolute no go & you feel like an inconvenience, then when you've ordered you get a receipt & sent to stand with all the blissfully ignorant students, crammed together with no manners & no awareness that they're making the situation pure chaos & the people sat trying to enjoy their food have to try ignore people bumping them, standing in their space & being obnoxious. Implementing a better system for waiting is something they really should consider.

The food, was obviously not the best & I'm certain they offer a much better quality meal at less busy times, we enjoyed it but we knew they offer much better quality than what we got. Will definitely return & give it another chance coz i think we just picked a bad day to visit but will be going when there's less idiots swarming the place. Its clear that the pressure from the number of people was enough to drop the service & standards a fair amount but they offer a good selection of Korean food. Wish more places would open up like this coz Korean & Japanese food is really slept on in the UK. Expanding is a sure thing for these guys, pulling in that kind of crowd shows the demand is there & theyre doing...
