Charm over substance, edit: Don Tacos Wilmslow Road Manchester Branch. Please don't condescend to tell me which branch I visited, I'm not an idiot. Don Tacos, a supposed haven of Mexican authenticity, left me bitterly disappointed. Upon arrival, a glass of water was refused. In such sweltering weather, a glass of chilled water is not just a courtesy but a necessity. Instead, I was forced to purchase an overpriced bottle of mineral water, leaving a sour taste in my mouth. To exacerbate the situation, ice was nowhere to be found. How could Don Tacos neglect such a basic requirement during intense heat? It demonstrated a lack of consideration for customer comfort and further compounded my frustration. The absence of spoons for the sauces was another disappointment. It may seem trivial, but it symbolized a lack of attention to detail. It was clear that the staff had overlooked this basic necessity, leaving patrons to fumble their way through the meal. We were informed they didn't "do" spoons. Even more disconcerting was the need to request cutlery and crockery from a bored waiter. Turning to the food, the highly touted birria tacos fell short of expectations. They were under seasoned and lacked the depth of flavor promised. The meat was disappointingly dry, failing to satisfy my craving for succulence. The carne asado was another letdown. The exorbitant price tag for a few meager tacos, accompanied by bland rice and rubbery beef, was unjustifiable. The flavors were lackluster, leaving me yearning for a more satisfying culinary experience. Leaving Don Tacos, I couldn't shake the feeling of hunger and unfulfilled expectations. The absence of tap water and ice, the oversight of spoons for the sauces, the need to request cutlery and crockery, and the under seasoned birria tacos and lackluster carne asado all contributed to a deeply unsatisfying experience. Don Tacos failed to deliver on its promise of an authentic Mexican dining experience, both in terms of culinary execution and basic customer service. I won't be returning anytime soon, a bland and...

Due to Corona virus orders must be placed online then picked up in-store. Alternatively if you are local to Don Tacos you are able to order from Uber eats, Just eat etc When we ordered our food the wait time advised was 45 minutes. Unfortunately, the 45 min wait for my food turned into a 1hr 15min wait, and when questioned about this, the person serving us (Adil) simply suggested we cancel our order (£123 of food) if we were unhappy.
After the long wait, our food arrived, I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants in the past, and Don Tacos is a very poor imitation of what Mexican food should be. I was severely disappointed by the tacos which tasted more South Asian than South American (simply adding guacamole and sour cream doesn't make something Mexican). The quesadillas were far too greasy (as you may be able to see in the pictures) and quite bland. I was hoping that the burrito would redeem them but even that was dry and bland (you can probably make better at home or go to any burrito chain and have better). The lamb chops were thin, over cooked and tough. Wings were dry and it did not seem like they had been marinated over night.
To add insult to injury, the churros were hard and crispy as if they'd been bought in ready made in rather than made freshly - not what I expected for £6 per portion.
The only redeeming parts of the meal were the bottled Mexican drinks and potato chips (Doritos Cool Original).
I am a big fan of Mexican food and I was severely disappointed by it after looking forward to it during my long wait. I hate bashing family run businesses but I would not recommend visiting here if you're after a proper Mexican meal.
Very poor customer service from Adil rude on the phone and in person. £123...
Read moreA really good effort, it’s not off from being 5 star perfection. Love the decor and toilet, the place is clean and service is adequate.
Food is lovely with a great selection of dishes. Birria Tacos! Great. You gotta have them. Shame there’s no seafood because I remember when I was travelling down the pacific coast I had lots and lots of delicious seafood. However, the menu is pretty extensive for such a quirky taco boutique.
Staff and service are a bit of a mixed bag as well. I can’t fault the staff but some could be more engaging. Having said that, it’s nice when people are smiling and welcoming but if a member of staff is doing what’s required of them but is a bit deadpan then it can be a little unsettling as was the case with our server. I didn’t mind though, he got everything done and noticed when we were missing cutlery etc and he took care of us. So thank you! Also related to the service is the ordering system which can do with upgraded WiFi and also, please have the WiFi details somewhere obvious because both my wife and I had little to no signal to use the QR code ordering system and after realising this issue we noticed a table walked out because of this reason and the other table next to us had all ordered apart from one lady who was also complaining about not being able to get any signal.
Hope my review helped and I hope I get the chance to come back and see if you’ve got something new to try.
Thank you Don Tacos,...
