I was really excited to try Double Zero pizza but I was severely disappointed, both with the food and service. We were sat right at the back of the restaurant and this made it extremely difficult to get the attention of any server when needed because they rarely walked around this area or looked in this direction. We had to wait ages after asking servers for menus and bills. This place really needed another server or two for, what seemed to be, a fully booked Saturday night.
We sat down and were given menus. I realised that I needed to ask for a vegan menu and it took so long to get the attention of any server. I signalled to one and he just signalled back from afar indicating 'just a minute' though never came over. After a while, I managed to catch another passing close by and got a vegan menu.
Ordered 2 pizzas, a cocktail, and tap water. Pizzas arrived before drinks. The waiter went to check re the drinks and a waitress was just making the cocktail so they were brought over soon after. Asked the waitress for cutlery when she came with drinks and the waiter came to bring them promptly. This isn't a big deal, but having to deal with 2 servers like this is extremely annoying.
Pizza was OK at best. There are better pizzerias in Manchester, especially for vegan options (ie Ciaooo). The Cavaliere Nero was meant to be a truffle mushroom base but it was very clumpy, not like a smooth sauce. It had no truffle flavour and the mushroom flavour was weak. The only good thing was that I could swap out one of the toppings for another for free.
I asked for a vegan panna cotta for dessert. The waiter came back saying they didn't have any today. That's no problem at all, so I just asked for the bill. The bill took what seemed like an eternity to arrive and I had to actually ask another waitress for it to be brought. The panna cotta was added to our bill. Ok no problem, I'll just ask for it to be removed. Again it took so long to get the attention of any server. When one finally came with a card machine, I said that the panna cotta wasn't available so he left to get the bill corrected. We got the corrected bill after a while but another waitress brought it, and nicely read out the 2 pizzas and cocktail on it. She had the card machine with her and I was ready to pay but it was clear that she thought it was the first time we asked for the bill so she left before I could ask to pay. I thought that she read out the items knowing it was a corrected bill, and brought the card machine to take payment immediately. But no, so I had to wait again for someone to come with a card machine and take payment. It was taking so long that I stood up, put my coat and backpack on, and sat down. Finally I think one realised and came to take payment. For a simple thing like getting the bill, having it corrected, and paying, I had to deal with 3 servers. Honestly so frustrating, just pleased there was no service charge but I would have asked for it to be...
Read moreWe had an extremely chaotic visit on a Saturday evening. It took 20 minutes before anyone came to our table to take our drink order. I ordered an Italian cider, but five minutes later, they plopped down a can of Inch's without a word and walked off. When we got another servers attention and asked why, we were told they had run out of the cider we wanted. You'd think they'd mention that rather than hoping we wouldn't notice.
Then, we had to witness a male employee arguing with the chefs in the kitchen, which was uncomfortable since we were sitting right next to the service area. There was also a younger girl shouting at her colleagues for an extended period about how someone isn’t a nice person, right after she stormed out of the restaurant and slammed the glass door (thankfully into its safety stopper). Seemed there were some issues between some of the servers due to being busy, that were being played out right in front of the customers.
At this point, I went to the front counter and spoke with the manager to let him know what we were witnessing. It was stressful enduring their service problems while trying to have a nice dinner. To be fair, we were moved without a problem, which felt much better since we were out of earshot of the service issues. However, this didn't last long because, at the end of our meal, the same younger girl came up to our table quite confrontationally to ask if there was a problem, as she had been told what we’d said. Honestly, I think her intentions were good and to apologise, but it was uncomfortable and inappropriate.
As for the food, it was okay, but there are plenty of better pizzas in Manchester. I was surprised at how many burnt pizzas were being sent out via Deliveroo orders—not the usual charring of Neapolitan crusts, but completely blackened pepperoni and vegetables.
I completely understand when restaurants don't run smoothly or you have to wait a bit longer, but that’s no excuse for the overall attitude of...
Read moreUsed to be our favourite pizza place in Manchester, as the pizza is great, but the service is becoming increasingly worse. Most times we attend the staff seem rude and careless. There’s always an attitude and it is always slow. Usually you’re sat 10 minutes before even a drinks order is taken, even when it’s not that busy.
Today however it was worse than usual. The man welcoming and seating guests, again, seemed like he’d rather be anywhere else. We were then served a pizza on a gluten free base (which we didn’t order). Unfortunately my Dad just assumed it was a different style of base (such as the Romana) only asking at the end to be told it was a gluten free base. Despite the waitress admitting she’d made the mistake, there was no apologies and just attitude suggesting it was my Dad’s fault.
We didn’t expect anything to come of this, but they removed this pizza from the bill but again it couldn’t have been more obvious how miserable this inconvenience made them. The staff make the experience uncomfortable.
Real shame because the food is always fantastic, the kitchen staff always do a great job.
May have to look to some of the other great pizza...
