I chose this venue over a chain to "support the independent". Upon arrival at the bar I was greeted with the unexpected news that they were a cashless venue. A social club that that proclaims on their website to be "your favourite grass - roots social club". I highlighted to the man serving at the outdoor bar that this was news to me and had I known I wouldn't have attended. This same man assured me that their website stated they were a cashless venue. I'm still to find that information even after trawling the website on a number of occasions now. In fact, the only mention of the venue being cashless is on a chalk board, behind the bar, inside the venue. Why would a social club participate in social exclusion of people who still use cash, people who want the vendor to retain 100% of the value of money handed over for payment of goods or services? When challenged why the venue employed such a disappointing policy I was met with "there are plenty of cashless venues now", well I'm sorry but that is a very dispiriting answer. Cash is financial freedom and should be welcomed everywhere. I will not be visiting again whilst this social ostracism...
Read moreGreat place hidden away but close to Piccadilly train station. Grub is a cool little place tucked under the arches close to Manchester's Piccadilly train station. There are various vendors inside selling their Street food. There is a good variety and plenty of vegan and gluten free options if that's your bag. The vendors are friendly and helpful as are the grub employees who work the bar and the seating areas. The bar has plenty of guest beers and ciders and also offers hot drinks including Vimto. There is a DJ playing an eclectic mix of music and I can imagine it's really jumping at night. Children and dogs are allowed and there is even a dog wall of pets that have visited. There are board games for the kids / family to play which is fun in whilst sitting on the sofa. All in all a good little place to try some different cuisine and beers in a relaxed...
Read moreVisited this place end of January we were a party of 9 people who were visiting Manchester from Derby. Went to this establishment to be greeted by a very pleasant man on the door. However once inside a lady member of our party was spoken to aggressively by a feral looking young man with 'UPVC' glasses who accused us of blocking the way for a lady in a wheel chair, we saw no wheel chair until afterwards and would certainly have had the courtesy to let her through. Ann having dared to answer this ginger bearded specimen back, having been falsely accused, was then asked to leave. That was not the end of it this labia faced man then proceed to follow our party to the door and suggest that we do not return. There is no chance of us ever returning. This very rude ignorant man leaves a bad impression of this venue and...
