OFFENSIVE AND AGGRESSIVE SECURITY PERSONNELL
Our party of 45 visited Mackie Mayors to have dinner together as a prelude to an international event we were hosting in Manchester. We chose this venue as we thought it would showcase the Manchester spirit. How wrong I was....
They do not respond to complaint emails so I have had to place my feelings here. They employ offensive and aggressive security staff, who turned our visit into an embarrassment and killed the mood of the whole night.
He approached us towards the end of our visit as we were wrapping up and preparing to leave. He was tremendously aggressive offensive towards several members of our party in a very poorly executed attempt to make us leave the premises. The only reasons he gave was that we were “tapping on the table” and blocking the route from the kitchen exit as people were standing up to gather belongings to leave and had been told to come upstairs, challenge us and make us leave by his security team.
His tone was demeaning, demanding and completely unreasonable. When we tried to explain that we’re weren’t doing anything wrong. At one point his eyes were bulging with aggression and he even went so far to label us racists because I challenged his tone and he thought I was “taking down to him” which is a ridiculous statement because collectively we are Afro Brazilian percussionists who work as a community to support Afro Brazilian history.
This was incredibly offensive to me and also a shocking experience to many of our guests who had travelled to Manchester for the very first time from as far afield as Athens to experience a weekend of the best that Manchester had to offer, he was hassling several of our guests on an individual level pulling at their clothing and manhandling them. I was highly embarrassed, even mortified by the whole experience.
I have no idea if this man is a Mackie Mayor employee or supplied through an agency, but Im shocked at how this person has been deemed suitable to work in the hospitality industry, appearing to have no idea how to work cooperatively with people. Which also seems to be true of Mackie Mayor themselves as they have ignored my complaint by email choosing to offer no resolution or justification for this horrendous experience, instead opting to pocket the money we spent in the venue that night (£1500-£2000) and effectively stick 2 fingers up to our concerns.
Food was ok but apparently its not possible in any of the outlets to get a salad with a steak, ended up ordering from multiple vendors.

Read moreIf you don’t know, this is an old market which has been refitted to have refectory style tables in the centre and around 8 outlets around the sides.
You order from an app or you can go to the outlets direct. I would advise the latter as the app is awkward at best. The service staff bring your food as it is ready.
Here in inlies the problem: we ordered a pizza and some Thai food. The pizza came within 5-6m and my daughter started. About 10m later both the noodles arrived but the kitchen had not read the gluten free note left on the app so it had to go back and came out a further 10m later.
When you go out for a meal you expect to be eating together, not watching each other eat.
The atmosphere of the place is such that the staff do not care one bit about this; the service staff literally drop your plate down and go away. No apology, nothing. It’s as if they don’t see that it’s a problem at all.
The surroundings of the place are nice, to be expected of these hipster type establishments, but the service is unfortunately on par too. Young people who seem nonchalant and vacant in equal measure, but that’s ok because they are clearly hip and fashionable 😂😂. (Ie covered in tattoos and wearing vegan trainers)
The food itself was lovely; no complaints there, but would I go again? Big doubts. Maybe in a big group if you were socialising, drinking and sharing the food. As a family for lunch there are probably better places to have a conventional lunch where you actually eat together,...
Read moreI recently visited Mackie Mayor and had quite a mixed experience. On the positive side, the drinks were honestly amazing and came out very quickly. However, the music was turned up far too loud, making it difficult to have a proper conversation with the people I was dining with.
Food-wise, the Karaage chicken, nap buns and the curry were excellent — full of flavour and cooked really well. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the ramen and pizza. The ramen, which I’d had before and absolutely loved, was a huge letdown this time. It arrived lukewarm with little to no flavour, which was really disappointing given how good it had been previously. Maybe the kitchen was having an off day, or perhaps standards have slipped, but either way it definitely wasn’t worth the price I paid.
As for the pizza, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either — very average and again, not worth the cost. Service was another downside. I struggled to flag down staff throughout my meal, and despite trying several times, I couldn’t get a glass of tap water maybe this is a tactic to try and get you to buy the over priced bottles
Overall, while there were some highlights, the negatives outweighed them for me. For the price point, I expected far better. Sadly, I’d give this...
