The Indian Tiffin Room - Indian food that is flavoursome and hearty
Thank you for the hospitality and service that we received when visiting your Manchester restaurant last Friday for a pre-theatre meal.
Food and Menu
The menu is simple and is easy to read. It is good that each category is clearly visible with a group of dishes underneath. For example, Starters, Curries etc. Each dish has a brief description with the price next to it. It is clear with the information that the guest expects to see.
There is a great variety of dishes that cater for all types of diner from the Meat lover to the Vegetarian.
In the Starters there is a large selection of dishes from the Samosas, Onion Bhajis, Paneer, Chilli Squid, Chicken Lollipops and more. Each comes with a dip and they are great for sharing.
In the Mains there are Curry dishes including Butter Chicken, Tikka Masala, Noodles, Chicken Korma and others. There are also meat dishes such as Kebabs etc. Each dish can be complemented with Rice, Naan and Chips.
For Dessert there is a good but a small selection of Indian sweets such as Kulfi and Julap. If you are not a fan then you will be disappointed as there are no Chocolate or other types of Dessert.
For the Starters the Home Made Samosas were delicious. Warm crisp pastry on the outside with a soft filling of Potato and Peas. Yum. The Chicken Lollipops were scrumptious. It had a battered coating on the outside with soft Chicken on the inside that melted in the mouth. The Chilli Squid was tasty and was moorish. They each came with a dip. They were Mint Sauce, a Spicy one and a Tomato one. The Mint was quite minty and it did not go well with Chicken. I did not have the Spicy one as I do not handle Spice well. I did not mind the Tomato one but it was not my favourite.
For the Mains the Butter Chicken Curry was heart-warming and the creamy sauce was comforting to eat. It was also fragrant with spices that added flavour. The Garlic Naan was lovely. It was soft with a bit of a bite on the edges. The Garlic flavour was nice and not strong to overpower the taste. The Rice was cooked perfectly. It was soft and fluffy. It always goes well with a good Curry. The Sweet Potato Fries were a great addition to the meal. They were crispy on the outside with fluffy Sweet Potato on the inside.
Dessert was something not of interest here as the options on offer were all Asian style which do not appeal to me both in terms of flavour and texture.
Drinks
There is a small selection of Mocktails in addition to the soft drink offering. They include a good variety of flavours including Lychee, Lime, Lemon, Raspberry and more. They are a great way to start a meal and to quench your thirst.
I had the Strawberry and Cream. It was refreshing, creamy and fruity which is what you want.
Service
The service was very good. The waiters and waitresses were friendly, accommodating and attentive. They gave us the time to choose our food and drinks. The food arrived pretty quickly. All the food was cooked fresh and it was beautifully presented.
Lighting and Access
The lighting at this restaurant was decent. We were given a table next to a window and as it was sunny there was enough natural light. The restaurant also had a lovely relaxed ambience which helped to enjoy our meal.
In relation to access there is a small step to enter into the building. Everything is on one level with no stairs which is great for people with mobility needs.
Parking
Parking is available at Q-Park on First Street which is a multi-storey car park behind the Home Entertainment space. The restaurant is just a short walk from there and you are required to pay even if you are a Blue Badge holder.
Pricing
The price of dishes at The Indian Tiffin Room are reasonably priced and are value for money.

Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of dining at the Indian Tiffin Room, and it was truly an exceptional experience. The hospitality we received was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed and made to feel right at home.
The first thing that caught our attention was the exhaustive menu. It was a culinary adventure in itself, with a wide range of dishes to choose from. We decided to try a variety of items, and we were not disappointed.
We started our meal with Tibetan-styled momos, which were packed with flavor, followed by the delicious pav bhaji, and two types of dosas - the Onion Rawa Dosa and the Madurai Masala Dosa. Each dish was a burst of authentic flavors that transported us to the heart of India.
However, there was a slight delay with our main courses due to a large order from another family. But what truly stood out was the management's response. They went above and beyond to make amends for the inconvenience. Even though we insisted that it wasn't necessary, they graciously offered us a complimentary dessert as a gesture of goodwill.
The staff at Indian Tiffin Room deserves special praise. Their attentiveness and friendliness added to the overall charm of the restaurant. The manager, in particular, was exceptional, ensuring that our dining experience was top-notch.
Indian Tiffin Room is undoubtedly the best destination for South Indian cuisine in the city center. The delightful food, outstanding hospitality, and the willingness to go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction make this restaurant a must-visit. We left with full hearts and even fuller stomachs, looking forward to our next visit to this...
Read moreAs an Indian in Manchester, I often find myself searching for ‘Indian’ food. I love Pakistani, Bangladeshi dishes but when you find dosa, idli, andhra chicken, Gobi manchurian on the menu, you know it’s Indian from India. This place is exactly that!! Loved the food, ambiance, service.
Location- Very easy to locate, at the heart of the city.
Ambiance- It tends to get busy and the ambiance is not exactly calm and serene and it’s because of the crowd but it’s well decorate especially those steel tiffin boxes hanging did make us feel nostalgic.
Food - Chicken lollipop and Gobi manchurian were by far the best I have had in the U.K. . Okra fries and medu vada was great as well but doesn’t beat Chennai dosa. The lychee Nimbu mock tail was mind blowing, a must if you like Lychee. For mains had Chicken Adhara and Chana Bhatura. Both the dishes were good but as compared to the magnificent starters the mains felt slightly underwhelming. But they were still better than a lot what other Indian restaurants offer. Not oily and spicy and just a disclaimer my threshold for spice is low. For deserts had shahi Tukda - I liked it but probably not as good as my mum :P.
Value - 4 starters 2 drinks 2 mains and desert costed us 65 which is decent value for dining in a good restaurant.
Service - The staff is extremely good. The employee who attended us was super sweet and helpful.
The place gives a lot of dishoom vibes but the certain items on the menu sets it apart from it.
Suggestion - It would be great if you could offer a little more options for...
