Overpriced, overrated and terrible service.
This place does not deserve the plaudits it gets, as a rare premium halal eatery, my expectations were high, we went in and got shoehorned into a small aisle style table. Both of us are 6’+ and well built so we expected one of the individual tables which were offered to other guests who came in as a party of 2 but not to us. They would sit people down on either side of us limiting space far more as well despite there being clearly a large amount of seating upstairs that wasn’t being used. The upstairs did have people dining so we knew it was open but everyone was being crammed into these areas.
The staff were inattentive at best, barely paying attention, the first time we summoned them to place our order, I watched as the staff passed the torch around a few times to see “who’s turn it was” to take the order. Ordering was done via an electronic system and could be done by anyone, so this system of assigning tables was absolutely unnecessary and quite rude to make the quests wait while you continue to laugh and joke about instead of sending one person with an iPad to place the order. The staff throughout the night were not responsive to orders, would interrupt while we were mid mouthful to ask if the food is ok and generally carried themselves with an air of snobbishness.
The food, overpriced, be warned, there are no extras included with the steak, most steakhouses will at the very least include vegetables or a sauce with the steak, these guys have everything as an additional extra and the additional are not cheap. Menu prices are online so you can see for yourself but a steak with roasted veg and peppercorn sauce will easily set you back a minimum of 40. The sides were actually half decent in taste so can’t complain about those too much but the steaks were not good. Each steak costs 30+ and did not seem it. We ordered a ribeye and a fillet, the ribeyes cook was done right but the ribeye itself was very thin. Taste on the ribeye was fine. The fillet however, was clearly completely done in a pan because despite requesting a medium rare, the steak arrived mostly grey with a slight hint of pink right in the middle.
This was the first time I’ve ever sent food back, I asked the waiter to come over and informed her I had asked for medium rare and the steak was closer to well done than even medium well. They brought their manager in to inform me that is what medium rare would look like and I told him again that the steak was grey almost all the way through, medium rare would be mostly pink. The manager again said the chef stated that is how the medium rare would look. I did not contest this any further as it was clear the manager was not about to budge on this. The steaks taste was still good, it was a premium cut and would always taste better because of that but it was chewy, a clear sign it was indeed overdone.
An after effect does appear to be some level of food poisoning from one of the dishes as well, we’re not sure exactly which one but it has happened and that’s furthering the bad experience.
Overall, not impressed, a terrible experience in general, overpriced with a service charge built into the bill for bad service. Will not be returning and will strongly be dissuading anyone...
Read moreI recently visited Ribeye with my sister, and we experienced disappointingly poor customer service and food. Although the staff were friendly on arrival, we asked for tap water and were informed they only provide bottled water, which made us suspicious when our bottle arrived with a broken seal. However, we ordered our steaks with sides, expecting a delicious meal. Unfortunately, when our steaks arrived, my sister's was cooked medium, and mine was more medium to well even though we'd both ordered medium-rare.
When I spoke to our waiter about the issue, he took my plate to the kitchen and brought it back cut in half, claiming it was medium-rare. I then requested to speak to the manager. However, the manager did not address the issue satisfactorily, continuing to argue that my steak was medium-rare. Eventually, the manager took my plate back to the kitchen, and I expected a fresh steak, but instead, he returned with the same steak cut in three pieces, and told me to eat it. I refused as I was concerned about the chef's hygiene handling my utensils when bringing the steak back. I expressed my concerns to the manager, but he continued to argue with me, insisting he knew steak better than I did. I was stunned by his behaviour.
After some time, the manager finally agreed to replace my steak, but it took over 15-20 minutes and the new steak had still not arrived and my sides were cold by then. We asked for the bill, and the only thing removed was the steak. There were no complimentary drinks offered, and the 10% service charge deduction did not make up for the negative experience overall. I've travelled the world and never experienced such behaviour and poor customer service from a restaurant manager and chef. It's clear the manager does not understand the importance of customer service in the hospitality industry.
I hope the restaurant owners take my feedback seriously and work on the issues I've highlighted. I wouldn't recommend this place for its lack of customer service and...
Read moreThe vibe is nice here and the service was friendly and quick. We ordered the chilli chicken bang bang which had a really nice kick to it and was really tasty - and the mixed platter. The mixed platter is definitely worth it for £20 in my opinion as you get a good variety of food. I personally did not enjoy the ribs, they had sauce on them and yet still tasted dry, and I did not enjoy the chops either. I felt they had no taste to it and I personally prefer saucy chops. The wings, prawns and halloumi were bang on though. The portion size was big enough to share between two people as starters. We ordered the wagyu ribeye steak as we felt it was worth ordering the best item on the menu. The steak was 4/5. It was soft and delicious on its own but the peppercorn sauce was so complimentary with it. The chips were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and went well with the mushroom sauce. We did order the fondant potatoes which we didn't like and I felt like they didn't really compliment anything but I guess if you like soft potato's they're okay. I must add that the steak was cooked exactly how we like it however which definitely is a good sign for a steak restaurant. The mocktails however were a let down and tasted like carton juice in a glass. Nothing special to them at all even though they were £5-6 each. We also got a bottle of still water for £3.50 which came in a glass bottle. We went to leave with the water bottle as we still had more than half left and were told by the manager we weren't able to leave with it as they refill those with 'filtered water'. I thought that was a bit weird as manchester tap water isn't really 'hard' or weird tasting like in some areas that it specifically requires filtering, I felt they should rename it filtered water instead of still water which leads to the assumption that its bottled water. Overall I think its worth a visit especially if you are a steak person, but I wouldn't attend again now that...
