The cafe's quite big but there's not that many seats, around 7-8 tables and some high tables around the windows. The cafe was a little bit noisier than what I'd expect and it was very noisy so if you go during weekend, expect there to be a queue.
These are the dishes I've tried: egg sandwhich, french toast, red velvet cookie and matcha latte.
Egg sandwhich: nice but nothing too different than ones that I make at home. French toast: this took around 30-40 minutes but it was worth the wait. The inside of the french toast was very soft, not too sweet and definitely very filling. red velvet cookie: it was ok, it was a nice cookie but basically just a red colour whitw chocolate chip cookie. I was hoping there'd be some cream cheese filling inisde or something but there wasn't and I couldn't really taste any cream cheese at all. Matcha latte: normal matcha latte. not very sweet. quite a small glass. gingerbred chai latte: I didnt try this but it does come with squirty cream on top and a normal mug size.
A situation occured when we went. So we ordered seperately as we had to order and pay online via a QR code. After 40 minutes, our food arrived but we were still waiting for our drinks. After another 5-10 minutes, I asked the waitress where our drinks were and she said that was everything on the 2 orders (we ordered seperately as we were paying seperately). I told her we ordered drinks and she insisted that that was everything so I showed her my email receipt and she still made it sound like we were lying or she didn't care if we still had drinks that didnt arrive. I then said we paid already and only then did she reluctantly ask what drinks we ordered and went and made it for us. She even said that we shouldve all ordered on the same order if its for the same table .. which just didnt make sense as Im pretty sure a lot of people who sit together would just order seperately especially if theyre paying seperately. I wasnt even complaining at the speed of food coming out as I knew we had to wait but I expected our drinks to come with or before the food rather than someone implying we didnt order drinks and we were lying...
Read moreDuring a recent trip to Manchester we were lucky enough to stumble upon Gooey Baker + Café. We actually walked past but was drawn in by the amazing smell of food and drink. We only popped in for a drink as we had just eaten some brunch elsewhere........but we couldn't resist going in for a look.
The kitchens are open for all to see the hustle and bustle. We were lucky enough to be seated by the kitchen and as we sipped our way through what was the best coffee I'd had in months........the food that was being prepared and sent out to the lucky people within the café....looked amazing.
Every time a new plate came out of the kitchen we decided we wanted to try that one.....ohhhh no that one.....ohhhhhh look at that one! :) It was very quickly decided that we would head back the following day to try for ourselves.
When I say we weren't disappointed - it's an understatement. My only error was I hadn't read the menu properly the day before so some of the options weren't available till 10am, and we arrive just after 9am. That actually probably helped as it narrowed down the options for us to choose from! haha
Having read other people's reviews on the café, a clear favourite was the French Toast, so we ordered that and a Bacon and Egg Sandwich with a side order of Hash Browns.
WOW, the food absolutely tasted as good as it looks! The French Toast is just heaven...........Gooey - please never ever reveal how many calories are in that......I know I blew an entire weeks worth of calories in one go - and I could not have been happier in doing so!!!!!!!! :) The Bacon and Egg (and Hash Browns) got an equal thumbs up from the other side of the table......it was all absolutely amazing.
We are already planning our next trip to Manchester - just so we can try other things on the brunch menu! haha
Thank you to all at Gooey - you have created something really fantastic and unique. Hope to see...
Read moreWe heard about this place watching You Tube reviews for the best/most recommended places to eat in Manchester and we were not disappointed. This place is amazing. The food is top tier. We came for brunch as a group of 8 so we had an opportunity to share almost their entire menu. We tried the famous French toast which is MASSIVE but did not disappoint in terms of taste and texture; I personally ordered the meatball sub which was well balanced with tangy yet sweet marinara sauce and savory homemade meatballs which are well spiced, a generous portion of cheese and a fresh bun (added fun they had gooey written in a Subway restaurant logo font); my sister in law had the katsu sandwich which was my least favorite just in terms that there was too much Japanese mayo and slaw but I did enjoy the Japanese brioche bread it was made with, the chicken katsu was well fried but in my opinion lacks flavor; the Reuben was well made but again I felt their house made pastrami just didn't have enough flavor compared to the salty beef I've had in other London restaurants; lastly the bacon sandwich with egg and brown sauce which my kids had was delicious, simple and well balanced, my kids and their cousins really enjoyed them. Had the halloumi and hash browns as well, both were quite good. Finished the meal by trying their famous red velvet cookie (fresh and warm) very great end to the meal. Bought some donuts and cookies for the road. Had them on the train back to London. Boston cream, almond croissant cookie, dark chocolate chip cookie and a kinder bueno donut, all were delicious. I highly recommend this place. Service was super friendly and the restaurant is spotless and has a...
