I cannot comment on the food however having booked a set meal at Namaste via the OpenTable website I rang to try to increase the booking from 6 people. Whilst waiting for the restaurant to answer I could not open the menu on their own website so when the phone was answered I asked to double check that we could have the set menu for the booking. I was told that they do not do a set menu and when I queried this I was passed to another gentleman. I explained I had collected the money from my friends as per the opentable set menu and he told me that they would not do a set menu and had not done one for over 10 years. Having politely explained I was in a bit of a pickle as the Open Table website which I imagine they will have entered the details on to clearly stated that they do I was told to email the manager but not to expect a reply as he is a very busy man. When I asked if I could speak to the manager I was told he wasn't there but they would pass my details on for him to ring me. I heard nothing back and have cancelled the booking and transferred it to another Nepalese restaurant that will do a set menu. I am sure the food is good but the service I received over the phone was very poor. their own website does not take reservations (though it says it does) and the opentable one that does take reservations clearly states they serve food...
Read moreThere's a lot of local competition in terms of Nepalese cuisine on Burton Rd, with two other establishments serving similar food within shouting distance. Namaste Nepal is the first of the three I've visited though, so I won't draw any comparisons.
The exterior of Namaste Nepal, complete with tacky sign-age, hints at the theme interior decor. This place isn't going to win any awards amongst the local hipsters. Who actually cares though?
I came here to eat a different curry and the huge menu of exotic sounding dishes to pick from provides you plenty of opportunities to do just that. I didn't have any knowledge of most of the dishes, however if this scares you there are some more obvious choices. I ordered at random and was presented with a dish almost black in colour, along with a side of rice. Aesthetically it wasn't much to rave about, however the taste was rich and flavoursome. I could eat it again.
Namaste Nepal also sell a fairly standard range of curry house lagers, sides and deserts.
I'd recommend giving Namaste Nepal a go and trying something new off the vast menu, better still get a few dishes between friends and...
Read moreAwful restaurant. Three of my Nepalese friends and I visited here to try a Nepali taste. We ordered chicken Momo( 2 different types) and they were just horrible, not fully cooked, had lots of flour with less chicken and other ingredients and it was served with a random commercial sauce( usually it is served with a Nepali style sauce made with lots of herbs and spices), when complained the manager( from Bangladesh) said it is not their fault, and we are the first to complain about it, then I asked him about his understanding of MOMO( MOMO have always been my fav food and has tried most of the best momos in Kathmandu and have tried few good momos in the UK as well). After a few arguments, he admitted that they modified it to attract the English guests, which is their main priority. It is OK to modify the dish to match the local demand, but it’s completely unethical to brand it as a Nepalese Momo and make money selling a product that is not even near the taste of what it should taste like. We did not try other food. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN AUTHENTIC NEPALESE TASTE, PLEASE AVOID...
