Came here for my birthday, twice, once during the day where myself and my girlfriend had a cocktail and played on an arcade cabinet, and another time later on at night for more drinks and 2 hours in a booth, both times everything about Pixel was awesome!
During the day it was a bit too busy for us to get a booth as a walk-in so if you want a booth then booking ahead is definitely recommended (especially on Friday/Saturday) instead, we made a booking for later on in the night, bought some cocktails (drinks service was fast and very warm and welcoming) and hopped on to one of their many arcade cabinets, these cabinets have tons and tons of classic arcade games and we managed to have so much fun despite not being able to do what we first intended to.
When we returned later into the night it was just as amazing, we were greeted by the doormen and we were ID’d, the doormen were very pleasant and welcoming and explained just how pixel works and how to get started with our booking, which we knew but we really appreciated that they were willing to do that!
Once inside we were greeted by honestly one of our highlights of the night, the staff at the bar were amazing and so so friendly, we were greeted at the bar by Nathan and he took our orders (until 9pm they have a deal where you can get 2 of the same cocktail for £10) and let us know that our booth was just getting cleaned and would be ready for us shortly, he answered a lot of our questions about Pixel and helped us out a ton and made us feel extremely welcomed into Pixel!
We sat down at our booth ready to play some video games, they take an ID or a bank card just as a deposit for the controllers, you get them back when you return the controllers, there are 3 types of booth: XBox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Playstation 5 (we had booked a PS5 booth), the booths are open but the seating is set out in a way where you really do feel like you have that element of privacy and we were able to enjoy ourselves gaming like nobody was watching. Since it was my birthday they brought over some complimentary birthday shots for myself and my girlfriend which surprised us but we really appreciated, we had never explicitly told the staff that it was my birthday so the only way they could have known was the badge on my bag, so this just made us feel even more amazing about the staff at Pixel.
Overall, Pixel is an amazing place to spend your night out, the drinks are amazing and video game themed (for recommendations, I would recommend the “Teemojito”, and my girlfriend would recommend the “Princess Peach”), the gaming and the variety of activities you can do at Pixel is wide and fun no matter what you come to do, but the highlight of Pixel for us was just how amazing the staff were, they made my 22nd birthday really an amazing day. The only downside of our night was that Nathan is a Fanatic fan.
Whether you’re a hardcore or casual gamer, or even if you don’t really play games that often but it seems fun to do on a night out, you should definitely come...
Read moreSpent two and a half hours in this bar absolutely fine with my two female friends. Invited a male friend to join us for one drink before we left. He was sober.
He got in no problem and went to the bar to order a round of drinks. They served him, let him pay and then sent the bouncer over to kick him out. When I asked what they were doing they asked if we were with him, we said yes and he went well you have to get out too.
Upon getting outside the bouncer told us he didn’t agree with it but had been instructed by management that my friend looked like a weirdo and wasn’t welcome in the club. He had just walked in. He didn’t go anywhere or talk to anyone. My friend is autistic and has the tendency to stim when nervous (he was nervous as first time meeting my friends) but apart from that he was fine. He fit the dress code and hadn’t been in pixel for over a year where he had a few drinks and left after no problem. They just kept repeating over and over he looked like a weirdo and management said he wasn’t welcome. The whole experience was really upsetting.
We asked for a refund and was told no, management didn’t want to talk to us and get out. So they essentially stole his money as they waited for him to spend it and then made him leave. We didn’t get to drink them. To be called a weirdo to your face because you’re a bit different is disgusting and ableist.
Our other female friend was still inside and they wouldn’t let us go and get her or get her for us. She was drunk and a vulnerable girl alone. We couldn’t get hold of her as when this was happening she went to the toilet and smashed her phone. We were moved all the way from pixel and in the rain and they didn’t care our friend was in there alone. We were told once they spot her she’ll be kicked out as well. We ended up separated for ages. I have contacted pixel on all forms of social media about this discrimination and they have read my messages and not responded. I suggest giving this place a miss if you want to be treated like a...
Read moreIt was a warm Saturday evening in July. Me and my friends wondered what to do on a lovely night like this, when we came across an advertisement for a so called "emo nite" and Pixel Bar Manchester. Now we are not impartial to some good emo music and good emo vibes, so imagine our suprise when we arrive at the aforementioned "emo nite", walk down the dingy steps to the basement, and find a mass of Mario cosplayers in ill fitting costumes, who if presented with a stick of deodorant, would sooner eat it than wear it. These cosplayers were not the worst group of people in this room, for a far more menacing species lurked in the dimly lit corners of the dungeon below Pixel Bar Manchester. In fact it would've been favourable if they did lurk in the corners, but this was not the case, as they pranced around the room, donned in non human attire. If you haven't guessed yet, I am talking about.... furries. Furries as far as they eye could see. Despite this, being the non judgemental type, we adorned the dance floor with a hopeful glimmer in our eyes as "gives you hell" by the all American rejects filled our ears. We then attempted to bust a move. But soon enough another noise crept in, the meowing of a stray furry invaded our ear canals and served as the last straw, pushing us to make our swift exit. We then left, back up the dingy steps, not even 30 seconds after coming down them. We barged through the door with tears still in our eyes and BO still in our noses. Our dream of an "emo nite" had been crushed for the first and last time. But then we went to another bar that played better music and had better company so you should probably just go...
