After a little shopping in Manchester, we decided to have a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. After walking around and looking at different restaurants, we came across the Topkapi Palace. A lunch menu that is served from 11:30 till 4pm consisting of a starter and main course for £13.95 per person seemed a very good choice. On entering the restaurant, there were a few people dining. We were met by a very nice, friendly waitress who gave us the option to sit wherever we wanted to. After we had settled at our table, we were given the drinks and food menus. We ordered a bottle of Cal Y Canto Tempranillo Merlot, Syrah (£19.95) to complement our starters of Cerkez Tavgu and Mitre Kofte. For our mains, we both opted for the Vegeterian Mussaka. All starters are served with Pita Bread. Mitre Kofte was four large, very tasty meetballs in a homemade sauce. The Cerkez Tavugu, which is shredded chicken blended with creamy mayo, was the star of the starters. We both would have this starter again. Our Mussakas came with rice and a side salad and was absolutely delicious. Apart from being delicious food, we both were impressed with the portion sizes, so much so we had no room left for a dessert. When the waitress brought the bill, it was accompanied by two hot towels and two lemon sweets. There are two bathrooms that are located downstairs, so for people with mobility issues, it might be a little awkward. On a positive note, both bathrooms were very clean and tidy. Great service, great food, and in our opinion, it is well...
Read moreI went here for the first time in a group and was extremely hungry. I order a chicken grill dish. The chicken was rancid with no exaggeration. It was completely off that you could smell it was off. I took one bite and I was almost sick. I couldn't get the horrid taste out of my mouth despite drinking and I couldn't stomach ant more food thus is how badly and obviously off this this chicken was and yet the restaurant still served it to me. When I told them they just quickly took the plate away and asked me if I wanted anything else. I received no sincere apology. Thankfully it was at least taken off the bill as anyone would expect. Theg still charged me for my soft drink.
We were given a 2 small scoops of icecream and few pieces of baklava to share amongst the large group as complimentary which was a cheap effort to compensate.
I would never go back here again . The chicken was so badly off that I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth hence didnt feel like eating anything else for the rest if the day. This is a completely honest account and not exaggerated. My friends also checked the chicken and could smell it was off without eating it. The smell was...
Read moreIt's wooden table tops rather than table cloths. I never think this is as clean as having a cloth. You look at the wood and there are marks across it. Didn't want to put knife and fork directly on to the wooden table top and kept it in napkin. Had a lunchtime meal at 11.99 for 2 courses. Portion size is good. Starter was the mix of Turkish food and very nice. I had moussaka for mains. It came with salad. Again a good portion. It was nice but nothing special. Drinks are typically priced for Dean's Gate and coffee 2.50. I would say the meal was just better than average and filling. Would I go again... I don't know as I like sea food and couldnt spot it on the menu. Service was quite efficient though and naturally staff pleasant. I had one small Peroni and coffee and total cost was about £18. That's a lot for me to spend at lunchtime. I was just trying it out and glad I did but frankly the experience was mediocre. Luckily it was a meet up with good friends so the occasion and chat were great. The restaurant didn't add anything to that. I'll be trying a different...
