Wallop Didsbury — Restaurant in Manchester

Thought I’d give them another chance. We were having dinner at 8:15 at a local Indian restaurant so popped in for a pre-dinner drink.

We arrived at 7:45 - there was a book which appeared voluntary so they are not taking names at all. Effectively breaking the law.

Ordering was reasonably quick as we sat near the bar and the young lad who took our order was very polite.

We left thirsty at 8:10 to go to the restaurant - it was simply not possible to get a drink.

The biggest joke was the blonde guy who I think is in charge asking if we’d ordered at 8:05. I said “yes, 20 minutes ago” - he then waffled on how busy they were. They weren’t.

It’s a complete shambles. They take orders on iPads and have one person on the bar serving the whole place. They used to have 3 people on the bar.

Do you see the problem? Durr!

At one point after a table had left, a girl asked me and my wife if we’d orders the 5 pints of lager she was carrying. “What do you think” I jokingly replied!

The guys had clearly had enough and I guess the beers went down the sink!

Don’t bother. There are great bars in Knutsford taking names and addresses properly and the service...

A bar that's on my doorstep (I got takeaway pints from them in lockdown!), and maybe I'm biased because of that, but it's really good.

Good things - a nice selection of beers and (as the name suggests!) wines, with new beers being added in fairly often as well. They do a decent coffee as well, and when the weather is nice, there's outdoor seating in the sort of arcade/promenade-y bit on Lapwing Lane. Dog friendly too. The last few times I've been, staff have been really good at coming over and seeing if we want another drink when we're getting to the bottom of our current ones... it tends to be nice and lively in there most days too. It's just quite nice.

Things to be aware of - it's a cashless bar, I think, so make sure you have a card/applepay or similar on you! It's not the cheapest bar, but it's also not expensive either, to be fair.

Overall, a really nice bar that's sort of inbetween West Dids and...

I've been a couple of other times and had a much better experience so I'm sure I'll change this to a 5* soon, but tonight was only okay. We went on a Saturday night and the kitchen closed at 8:30 but the menus were left on the table and we nobody was told the food was finished, and people were still getting served meals 20 minutes later. Main issue was the DJ just played the music way too loud. He had headphones in and was just ignoring the room, who were there to talk to each other and had to shout to get heard. Ye kept on making it louder and louder. Put it all together and we'd planned to spend the whole evening there but left at 9 pretty hungry and a bit hoarse from shouting. Just could have been...
