Britalia Italian — Restaurant in Mansfield

We chose the restaurant in a hurry and whilst we enjoyed what we had. I compared it to other Italian places I have eaten at. The drinks were about average price, The food whilst enjoyable was average . I had the Prawns in Chilli and tomato sauce four prawns overpowered by sauce and chilli . We ordered bread an olive oil with balsamic and the ratio of oil to balsamic was poor and the bread was just like a daily supermarket loaf with crusts cut off when I would have expected an Italian bread at least. I chose the Calzone Kiev and there was far from enough filling and over powered by the thick dough, my wife had the garlic mushroom starter and this was pretty average but the sauce was nice, All in all a very nice average meal but overpriced for what we received. I expected a lot more from a town centre Italian restaurant . I need a great deal of persuading...

Have I not just been to the same place that everyone reviews with 5 stars?????? This is DEFINITELY NOT an authentic Italian. The owner needs an English lesson in the terminology of the words 'Homemade Bread'. The only place that made that bread was tesco, and it arrives on the plate toasted. So much emphasis is put on how hot the plate or dish is and I think this is meant to distract you from the fact the food is little more than luke warm. The spaghetti bolognese was as watery and as lacking in flavour as a Tesco ready meal which im convinced this was. I specifically wanted to staff to know that our plates were empty ONLY because we had worked all day and that we were hungry and NOT assume it was because we had enjoyed the food. We have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and we ticked it off tonight. We were looked after beautifully. They balanced being present without being intrusive. I can honestly say this was the best we've been looked after in many a year. I'm coeliac, normally this causes problems. However, the team couldn't have been more helpful or knowledgeable. I had my first carbonara in years and it was delicious. He had the calzone Kiev and is already planning his next visit. My son had the muscles and thoroughly enjoyed them.
