So this was our first visit to Chickaroos. It was for my husband’s birthday. When we sat down we immediately ordered nachos as we were starving and thought we could eat those whilst browsing the menu. The restaurant was very quiet. There were only another 2 tables occupied. Within 5-7 minutes we placed our starter order along with the drinks with a female member of staff. A couple of minutes later a male member of staff came over to take our order. We advised him we’d placed the order with his colleague and when he repeated it to us there was only nachos on our order. So we placed it again. So we sat and waited and the drink came out and so did the starter but no nachos. By this point at least 15 minutes have passed. We were told the nachos would be another 5 minutes. It defeated the whole reason why we even ordered them in the first place. But anyway we enjoyed the starters.
We then placed our main order which was the Chickaroos Loaded Steak at £32. The member of staff came to take away our starter dishes but the nachos plate was not empty so I said please could you leave that plate on the table. He asked me “are you sure” and chuckled. I do not understand what was funny. I was paying for the nachos and as I hadn’t finished them I did not want them thrown away.
As it was my husband’s birthday I asked the female staff member if when I ordered the dessert could she put a candle in it and bring it out. I was told yes that’s fine but the Matilda cake on the menu had been replaced with something else and so I couldn’t order it. I changed my order to a brownie. She then came back within a minute to say they had no candles and so couldn’t do anything for me. I was disappointed but I left it at that and said nothing.
So now our main course came out and we immediately started eating it but it was not hot. It was topped with mac and cheese which was slightly warm. The doner meat was also cold and so were the chips. So we said to the member of staff the food was not warm so the plate was taken away and bought back out within a few minutes. The doner meat had been exchanged but everything else was still cold. We were told the mac and cheese is not heated as it goes crispy. We were then repeatedly told the Mac and cheese is hot. I said to the staff member no it’s not and he said yes it is and this went on for a bit until I said but I’m putting it in my mouth and it is not hot. So he then offered to bring some Mac and cheese in a bowl covered in cheese as they heat it separately!
We then ordered some onion rings and they came out quickly. We tried it and didn’t like the taste so told the staff member we found them bland. At this point he said to me “this is too many complaints”. I was taken aback by his comment. I did explain to him I am paying for all this food and for that reason I am within my rights to tell you if I find something wrong with it. I also said to him I found his comment rude and I had only made two “complaints”. The £32 main I ordered was cold and The onion rings were bland He then offered to remove the onion rings from the bill.
We did not finish the main as it was cold and so we got it packed.
Overall we were happy with the starters but the whole issue with the nachos and the cold food and the staff members lack of customer service put me off coming back or recommending this...
Read moreAfter having a good experience getting takeout, I was looking forward to dining in with the family.
The menu offers a huge selection, so it's easy to keep everyone happy, and the place has been decorated to a very good standard.
The reason for the low marks are really down to the service and food.
The service is over the top yet its under deliveried. Upon arrival, we were greeted by 5 staff, each asking how many guests were to be seated, it took 5 mins and about 4 staff to seat us and place menus. This continued throughout our stay. Different staff would come up and ask us the same questions, making the experience very awkward and intrusive.
The staff are very nice and I wasn't going to write a negative review, as I thought it's a new place and they are very keen make a good impression. But then I noticed they were clearing the table as we were still eating, and trying to push us out the door. A waiter went over me whilst I was eating to clear a plate, this happened a number of times. There were 9 of us, and we there for only 45 mins!
Even though I previously ordered take out and enjoyed it. I wasnt impressioned with my order whilst dining in. Its food you can get cheaper and better elsewhere, they are charging about £15 for a main, worth it if its done well, but not in this case.
The noodles very ordered were bland, and chicken kebab mix was really not great value at all. Burgers are just...
Read moreI visited yesterday with high expectations, especially after a great experience at their Luton branch. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing from the start. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a man who was shockingly rude, impolite, and completely unwelcoming. To my surprise, I later learned he’s the owner—absolutely disgraceful behavior.
The only saving grace of the visit was the female waitress serving us. She was attentive and professional, doing her best to manage everything on her own. However, it was heartbreaking to see her constantly harassed by the owner. There didn’t seem to be any other staff available, so every request had to go through her, while the owner was of no help whatsoever. Dirty tables were left unattended, which completely ruined the atmosphere.
When the food finally arrived—over an hour later—it was cold and far below expectations. I even spoke to other customers, hoping they might have had a better experience, but they shared similar frustrations. Their orders were wrong, and they mentioned the restaurant had even run out of chips.
Overall, the experience was a complete disaster. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The management desperately needs to step up because the current state of things is...
