Not my Monkey — Restaurant in Newark and Sherwood

Stopped by this morning. Looked really nice for a brunch stop. Ambience inside is nice. However the breakfast/brunch options were limited to cake/pastries or full lunch dishes. As I don't have a sweet tooth, I was struggling. Staff didn't suggest options, so I passed. Had an Americano (my wife has a tea and a cake slice), which came to £8 and change. That might have been ok if the coffee was really tasty, but it was tasteless. The blend used or the amount of coffee just didn't have anything about it at all. I get that this place has a nice ambience and that the cake looks good, but there's really not much to offer for breakfast or brunch if you don't want cake/pastries. And the price is premium for a non-premium (drinks) product. I'm afraid I wished we had tried places...

The coffee and cakes are nice enough, and the general atmosphere is pleasant. The outdoor seating with views over the river is a nice place to spend some time, but I was extremely disappointed to have waited 40 minutes for coffee and cake last Friday. The lady who brought it was at least apologetic, but there was a surly member of staff on the counter who pointedly ignored me as I walked in to look at the cakes.

We were going to get some actual food but decided against it as we were told there was a wait of 45 minutes. However, there’s no good reason a couple of coffees and cakes should have taken anything like as long as they did, and it’s put me off returning next time...

Oh my goodness! This place is amazing! The cakes are fresh every day and taste absolutely divine! My partner had a latte and I had a mocha and the milk was steamed perfectly, the staff have definitely had training to craft the most beautiful drinks. The staff were so inviting and had the biggest smiles on their faces and couldn’t have done enough for us. This will definitely be turning into a firm favourite coffee shop and we will be back! The interior is also beautiful as well and you can tell that a lot of hard work and effort has been put in to make this place so beautiful. I wish the owners the best of luck with their...
