We've been to Nudo Noodle House many times over the years and enjoyed it. With this new change we were keen to give it a go. Unfortunately it was a disappointment.
The idea is great, the place nice and the staff very good too. But the food was a let down. We had the Tonkotsu broth, one of our favourites for Pork Ramen but it was very weak and watered down compared to other places - we had to add a lot of soy, sesame oil and other condiments to get some flavour.
The area for selecting the ingredients is very small and so even when moderately busy it's a bit of a pain trying to get to them. The scales for checking the cost are by the till - with a queue there and the staff also using them, we couldn't easily get to check and weigh our stuff as we went along. Another set of scales would help.
The bowls were shallow metal, and rather than soup ladles we were given small metal spoons. These would slip into the bowl if left for a moment along the side (soup ladles have lips on the end for this reason). They were so small too that it was frustrating getting the liquid from bowl to mouth.
Perhaps partly on me as a customer, but I'm not a chef. So I selected ingredients I like individually, but they didn't quite work together (a better Tonkotsu would have helped there though). When I eat out, I pay an expert - a chef - to do the work for me as they know best. It was fun I'll admit, but at the end of the day the food was a let down. We'll stick with the related Umai Mi restaurant from now on, as some of the Nudo staff are there, also many of the old...
Read moreListed as wheelchair accessible but has a big step in and no ramp, and another step inside to get to the self service section. Also there’s no fully dropped curb to get to the pavement, and the semi dropped one involves going over cobbles (the lack of dropped curbs obviously isn’t the restaurant’s fault but just including it in case any other wheelchair users want to visit). Staff were wonderful and assisted my friend and I, both wheelchair users, with getting in and out and getting our food. They made an extra effort to prepare the food quickly as they knew we had a taxi on the way. I have a sesame allergy and it’s rare to find any restaurants with allergen information on the regular menu and labels, so I was impressed that every ingredient had allergens listed. The portions were huge, though we only had ourselves to blame for that as we got overexcited and wanted to try everything! We’re vegetarian and vegan and there impressed with the number of meat free options. The food was amazing, we both got the tomato broth which was delicious. Overall it was brilliant but we were obviously disappointed to find that a restaurant that was listed as wheelchair accessible wasn’t, hence the 4 stars...

I recently visited Nudo Malatang several times in Newcastle and had an amazing experience! The Halal curry laksa and tomyum broths were absolutely delicious, and the dry malatang option was flavorful and spicy. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, explaining the concept and helping me choose the perfect ingredients.
What impressed me most was the student discount option - I got to enjoy my meal at a discounted price. The gift card option is also a great idea, perfect for friends and family who love Asian cuisine.
