First visited 17th September 2016 on the recommendation of a friend who'd been a couple of times, and have since been back several times, most recently in May 2017.
The staff were amazing... A young lady named Fern was running front of house, and did a brilliant job of going from having only a couple of tables occupied to then turning people away because it became so busy! As we went through the drinks menu, she gave us a couple of sample drinks, one of the Thai whisky (not unlike rum, to a degree), as well as a vodka-based infusion of herbs and spices. The menu was explained in great detail, and although there was a slight language barrier, she really was an absolute star at every single point. If I could rate on the staff alone, it's 5 star review across the board here!
Now the food?, Well that's something special in itself... Everything is cooked to order, and turns up at the table when it's ready, which gives everyone in your party (and other tables) plenty of time to get a case of food envy as things turn up.
My choice tonight was black egg, stir fried in pork mince and chilli with thai basil, served with steamed sticky rice. Wow. The black egg was something I’d not tried before, and is basically the Thai equivalent of a Chinese 1000 year egg. Although it may look a little strange to Western eyes, it’s definitely something you should try, and I’ll definitely be having it again.
The amount of food chosen was spot on overall, and Fern was great in recommending the right amount for us to order.
Quite simply the best Thai place in Newcastle. Food is amazing, prices are great, staff are great and everything’s spot on.
One thing to keep in mind is that it’s cash only, however there are a couple of cash machines within walking distance. Please don’t let that dissuade you though.
Go now, and make sure you feast like a king!
UPDATE: We've been here a few times now, and it's absolutely the best, and most authentic Thai place in town, if not the area as a whole.
Everything is prepared and cooked as it comes, and there's not a dish on the menu I wouldn't eat (and won't, given enough visits).
Particular favourite of mine is the black egg dish with pork, which is absolutely amazing...
Miss this place and you're missing a slice...
Read moreSo, I hope the owner of this cafe actually reads this review, I'm going to start by saying I've walked past this place a million times always thought it looked an authentic relaxed place with incredible smells coming from the door, however on my first ever time of trying it this evening i took my partner, bigged it up and everything... I'm regrettably stating From the moment i arrived tonight the service was shocking, firstly we were seated on a table which was taken from someone else while they were eating their food, i ended up basically sitting at table with a total random guest of yours. secondly after my order was taken and quite timely the food arrived, it was a total different dish to what i ordered as i said also was supposed to be a noodle soup. She (the waitress) then proceeded to run the spoon through my food herself several times to check if there was actually any noodles in it which questions my honesty. I held my tongue, she went away and brought us glass noodles and placed them in the dish that she originally brought out. we were horrified as both the dishes that were brought in the beginning were incorrect as we asked for the soup with no coconut milk. anyhow I'm sure if we had got the correct dishes it would have been delicious. lastly and by far the worst part for me personally was that the lovely couple who were eating beside us, which i might add were singing the praises of the food before it arrived, were actually asked to leave the restaurant less than 3 minutes after they had eaten. i couldn't believe it! absolute shocking after £36 bill. So for this reason alone has to be...
Read more📍Thai House Café, Newcastle (Thaihouse Newcastle) When a Thai local person vouches for a Thai shop, that's a definite good start. And that's exactly what happened to us; a doctor from Thailand recommended this spot to us. With a 4.6 star Google rating with 300 reviews, I was really looking forward to fixing my Thai food craving 🌶️
We came twice in a row. On our visit, I noticed that many patrons here were Thai people, conversing in their very own dialect. That's a testament of the authenticity of the cuisine. The owner happened to be there, who is a most friendly Thai lady.
🍜We ordered vegetarian Pad Thai. Delicious. Spicy, with the noodles not over-cooked and with the right consistency. The tofu complemented by the pickled chilli slices with peanuts, and the beansprouts; just perfect. Add in some Chilli Flakes and Lime for the kick. The Thai way would be to add some sugar in the dish, in which the owner showed us how to. We thoroughly enjoyed our Pad Thai.
🍛Our other experience there was on a Saturday night with friends; it was bustling with life, filled to the brim with patrons. I enjoyed the beef with garlic & rice - tender, rich with spring onions and other herbs. Friends of mine had the signature Tom Yam with vermicelli.
🌶️My personal winner is the Pad Thai! We're definitely coming again when we have a Thai Food craving. There's so many dishes here I have...
