Arrived just after 1pm not too busy, ordered lamb & mint pie and Bolognese & mozzarella. Group of 3 ordered just before us, their food arrived 10/15 minutes. Bar staff came out to tell us ours would be another 10 minutes as they were cooking from fresh, this was after 20 minutes wait. 15 minutes later still no food so popped back into bar bit of a wait due to others ordering. Said it was just coming. 5 more minutes it arrived. So 40 minute wait. A couple arrived 20 minutes after us and got their food straight after us, the group of 3 that ordered before us had eaten their food and now leaving. After a few minutes of eating, we were rushing as time for car park was looming, bar staff came out to ask how the food was. Said it was OK and expressed my concern about how long our order took compared to those before and after us. He explained there had been some confusion as they'd had a meeting! Wow, I'd been told before it was delayed due to cooking fresh. No offer of free drink or discount. I said I would be writing an unfavourable review,he appeared not to care. Rant over about poor customer service, now the food. The portion size wasn't great, the minted lamb & Bolognese pies were nice if a little small. The minted peas didn't taste minty and red wine sauce was extremely runny. The potato wedges were very brown and overcooked. Wye Aye chips just cheesy chips. Lemonade and Pepsi were flat. Overall I wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend for their customer service or food. They had 3 chances to appease us as customers and they...

CORRECTED following a recent visit months after COVID restrictions lifted: Pies are now totally different.. not bad but not how they used to be.. the serving has also been changed; pease pudding was horrible and it used to be one of the best ones. The variety has been expanded of the pies and the trims though. The most HORRIBLE experience was when we got our beer orders. I had ordered a cask ale and it was TERRIBLY warm! I went to ask about whether they used a glass out of the dishwasher and had this effect but they instead claimed that "Cask ales are ALWAYS served at room temperature".. and it was a summer day.. well so long was the Redhouse pub for me. NEVER VISIT it again!! CORRECTED FOLLOW UP REVIEW (after COVID): They now require a 10% table service fee although you go yourself to order at the bar and they just bring over the pies (beers are not brought over). I do not see the difference in the service before and after covid so it is not very comprehensive as to why this extra charge. Moreover the pies were not well looked after and in fact lightly burnt. Clearly an affected COVID business which has increased the cost asked from the customer to pay but decreased its quality... Too bad... :-( FIRST VISIT in 2019: Great from every aspect! Ambient, pies, beer varieties.. All of them remarkable and a combination that is hard to beat.. A true gem of Newcastle! Definitely a stop by when visiting Quayside! Stout ale mince meat pie and stout draught beer...

Good food, poor service! Me, my girlfriend and two friends were looking forward to going to Redhouse for simple food done well unfortunately we won't be coming back for a long time. We had booked a table for 6.30. The first problem was that it took over 20 minutes to even get to the bar to order our pies. This was baffling as there seemed to ample staff on the bar and the simple process of order the pies was advertised all over the restaurant. We then waited for at least another 40 minutes before two of our pies arrived, my girlfriend and I still waiting. We saw a waitress wandering round the restaurant with what looked like one of our pies we stopped her and found it was my girlfriend's meal. Mine must have been given away to someone else and after a further 10 minutes I went to the bar to ask what had happened and my pie had to be re-ordered. After 5 minutes a fresh pie turned up for me, proving that the food can be prepared quickly. We were offered a free round of drinks which was something but no frank apology or explanation of what had gone wrong. I cannot understand what takes over an hour to prepare for the four pie meals, in the time it took we could have driven to Amble got the pies direct from the butchers and warmed them ourselves. The pies are delicious but the delay was totally unacceptable and totally spoilt an evening we had been...

Such a let down. Online it offers really good vegan pies and the one showing was a salt and chilli mushroom pie. Don’t trust the online menu … On arrival we asked if they had what was on the menu and save for one type (not the vegan option) the answer was yes. Had they said no, we’d have time to go elsewhere. We ordered a couple of pints then ordered the vegan pie, only to be told they only had sweet potato - the menu was out of date! With nowhere left to go and such good reviews we stayed. What a disappointment. It was clear they had dumped the mash and mushy peas on one plate and stuck it under a hot lamp while they waited for the pie. The mash was dried and the mushy peas dark with a crusty skin. The other has chips and minted peas. The chips were okay under the hot lamp but the peas were drying out. The temperature of the food when it arrived revealed the truth because the plated food was only warm, the gravy cold and the pie so hot it was beyond a joke. The sweet potato was tasteless and was mushy because it had been microwaved beyond what it could take. It was nothing more than spooned sweet potato in a pathetic paper thin pastry. Think this reviews is harsh? Have a look at the photos. Sorry.
