Escape Newcastle — Local services in Newcastle upon Tyne

We booked 'The Arcade' room at the City Centre location. After Google searching the location we made our way to the venue. It became apparent that Escape Newcastle was no longer situated at this address and after phoning for clarification we found out they had a new venue but Google has not been updated?!

We eventually found the venue, which in itself was hard as there aren't any signs outside.

It is a large empty unit that looked like it was still in the middle of refurbishment however we did question the receptionist who informed us they had been open 9 months already.

We registered our arrival with a very uniterested receptionist and asked for direction of toilets. All the toilets had Out of Order signs on them which we were told to ignore when we questioned. We were asked to wait in the empty, univiting, non atmospheric ' Cafe' where we were collected nearly 10mins late by our Games master before going upstairs to the rooms.

The safety briefing was as to be expected and the storyline speil was dull.

I don't want to give anything away in the room, however I felt it was very basic, very linea, and the puzzles were dull and boring and it was based in just 1 room. One of the locks would not open with the correct combination which we had solved within minutes. Even after asking the Games Master for help, she kept giving us clues that did not help as we had already worked out the answer but the lock wouldny open. She eventually came in to help us and couldn't offer us much help when discovering the incorrect coded lock. It was at this point we had had enough and walked out of the room.

We had a fantastic time at Escape Newcastle! We did "the cabin" and the room had a perfect mix of some easier puzzles and some very challenging puzzles. The theming and atmosphere were amazing! I can't remember their name but the person who welcomed us on arrival and helped us out with clues was very friendly, smiley and fun! The whole team at Escape have been very helpful and accommodating, as we had a few issues come up before the day itself! Originally we were booked to do a room back in February, but one member of our party got covid and had to isolate. Escape replied to emails very quickly and kindly, and said that we just had to email them when we had found a date to reschedule to! Our work schedules didn't line up for a while but despite the long wait to hear from me Escape easily booked me in for May as soon as I emailed. We were also originally booked to do the "first contact" room at the gate, however the gate is currently shut. Again, communication with Escape was great! They rang me and we talked through all the options, and we swapped to a room at their other venue instead. This room, "the cabin", was so good and a lot of fun despite not being our first choice. Game masters provide hints and clues if your group gets stuck on a particular puzzle. It made the experience accessible for all levels of players, whether you're a seasoned escape room enthusiast or a first-timer. The game masters were attentive and gave just the right amount of assistance, allowing us to progress without spoiling the challenge.

The price for the experience provided was more than reasonable, especially considering the quality of the puzzles and the level of entertainment. It's an excellent option for a fun night out with friends, a memorable date night, or a unique team-building activity.
