Vicolo by Tyneside Cinema — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

Since this cafe changed hands it has went from bad to worse, just popped in this morning to see if things had improved and........ nah, choice of food is very limited, and pricey as well, £1.50 for a cherry and almond fancy or whatever they call it, tasty yes but it was gone in one bite ! And so to the coffee, if anyone remembers the previous establishment you will know it served what was probably the best coffee ever, no ifs or buts, it was simply the best you could get in newcastle, but now, OMG, what the hell have they done ? The coffee is weak as water, barely warm, and just plain downright tasteless, now I know it doesn't just sell coffee but I would say it's what the majority of customers buy and all I can think of is the owners have cut corners left right and centre to make a bigger profit margin, I personally think they are going to find that they aren't getting the amount of customers they hoped for and it's down to the sub-standard coffee and food on offer, even a McDonald's cappucino is...

I've been waiting (excitedly!) for well over a year for Vicolo to reopen. It used to be my go-to spot for breakfast, great coffee, and a comfy space to get hours of work done. I tried to resume this routine this morning - I'm a long-standing Tyneside Cinema Friend and I've missed everything about this place. Unfortunately it seems the re-start is a little rocky - Google Maps Live shows the venue as 'temporarily closed', which might explain why there wasn't a single customer there over an hour after opening. There was a menu on display but when I tried to order food, staff said they didn't have anything and could only serve drinks. I left and went elsewhere as I wanted breakfast. Vicolo meaning allyway in Italian is a lively little coffee / bar in Newcastle. During the day it is buzzing with shoppers by night it is lit up by a canopy of twinkling lights. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. If weather permits grab a drink and some of their delicious food, which by the way is made in their own kitchen, grab a seat outside and watch the world go by. In the summer months on a Friday there are musicians performing outside, this was tried out for the first time last year and the level of talent was outstanding.
