Me and my friends made a bottomless brunch booking for four people. We wanted to add one extra person, so we rang back to try and add them on but they didn’t answer. Over the next four days we rang multiple times but again there was no answer from them. On the day we attempted again which we managed to get through to them and they refused to let us add our extra person because we hadn’t called within the 48 hours (we had tried but to no answer) and apparently there was a staffing issue. We decided to try our luck and go to the restaurant as a 5 and see if they could squeeze the extra person in. On arrival, there was one table in the entire restaurant, and 4 staff members present. No seeming staffing issue and was not at all busy. We tried to discuss our booking and add the extra person on, saying we were alright with just squeezing a chair on the end etc. we were shut down at every stage and told they wouldn’t discuss with us further. Overall a very rude and dismissive treatment for an event we were very much looking forward to and had traveled a considerable distance to make. There’s nothing further we could have done as customers, we had tried to contact them within reasonable time, and were shut down with no reasonable explanation. It seems unlikely that adding one extra person to the total 10 in the restaurant would send the place into chaos. It’s a shame as we’ve otherwise had good experiences with Zaps in Durham, but this branch seems held back...
Read moreComing from south-western United States where Mexican cuisine is a major part of our food culture, I have to say that Zapatista Burrito bar is exceptional in terms of food quality in comparison to home. I asked for the spicy sauce for my burrito, and I was stunned when the sauce actually met my expectation of hot. The food was delicious although a tad bland in the guacamole department and the use of Cheddar cheese threw me off. The burrito itself had all the same flavors similar to Cafe Rio or Chipotle and was pretty well put together. (I thought it was strange that they call the brown rice "red rice"). The atmosphere of the interior reminded me more of a Tex-Mex chain (Chipotle or Cafe Rio) rather than an authentic Mexican eatery, but it makes up for this in its taste. Prices are very high when compared to food of the same quality in the United States and Mexico, although I expected this as Mexican cuisine is still relatively new to this part of the world. I would come back here, and I do recommend to any travelers from the US to Newcastle who just might feel a...
Read moreThe food is good here for the price and o normally recieve excellent service but this time round the experience wasnt the same. I asked for nachos to sit in, and then the girl started serving me in a takeaway box which are harder to eat from. I reiterated that i was sitting in to which she replied that she was sorry.. i thought ok whatevs and was expecting her to place the nachos in a basket. She didn't and simply continued. She then started telling me that they weren't making much money and that they were phasing out the baskets of nachos in favour of cardboard boxes..... in which business is it cheaper to use bought cardboard boxes instead of reusable plastic trays?? I felt like this was a really wierd excuse for not serving me in the typical plastic tray. Anyway i then sat in with my nachos in take out box, i had to rip it apart in order to eat more comfortably, they weren't as good as usual for some reason. Maybe the sprinkle of attitude was what made them taste bad. Im a loyal customer and really i felt like the service on this occasion was...
