I booked Thai Sabai as a treat for my Sister's birthday. My husband, my sister her husband and I we very excited about going there for the first time. We were greeted by the manager and escorted to a table upstairs by a very nice waitress. Eventually we were given menus and our drink order was taken. Another equally nice waitress came over to take our food order, I would think she was fairly new, perhaps it was her first day? She asked us to order by number as she said the chef prefers it that way, so we found the numbers and ordered. My sister and I had the Thai sweet corn cakes, Thai green curry with King Prawns, my husband ordered the spicy meat balls and Thai Green curry with beef, my brother in law ordered the tempura vegetables and mussaman curry with beef. Our starters arrived and they brought my sister and I completely the wrong dish. I said this is not correct and they looked confused. The manager arrived and I explained we had ordered the sweet corn cakes and she said we'll we don't have any as if we should already know this. I think the waitress who took our numerical order should have known this she should also have known where the ladies loos are but didn't and had to ask another member of staff. Anyway, we looked at the menu and ordered the Thai Fishcakes, of course my husband and brother in law already had their starters and to save them going cold we told then to go ahead, the tempura veg was good, the meat balls were rather dry and didn't come with any dipping sauce. My sister and my starters arrived when the men had finished and we were not a fan, the taste was ok but the texture was not pleasant, it was quite rubbery. Three main course arrived and when we asked where my husbands beef curry was, they looked confused but perhaps 5 minutes later his man course arrived, delivered by the barmaid. We were all very happy with our main courses. The overall experience was a disappointment, the waitresses were really sweet but run off thier feet and inexperienced, not thier fault. They should have had more staff and should have had much more training. Restaurants need to understand that front of house is equally as important and the food, excellent food delivered badly ruins the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst off let me start by saying this is my first time eating Thai as I've never lived close enough to one to go and try it properly, so this could be a little biased, that being said this is what I thought.
Firstly the resturaunt is a beautiful place to dine and has a fantastic atmosphere, every member of staff was smiling, freindly and helpful, we got caught out in the rain before the starters came and they rushed us inside and cleaned down a table for us upstairs, the starters arrived and wow! Everything was so fresh, every flavour complimented the next and it's was nicely presented we had pork dumplings, spring rolls and vegetable tempura for starters.
The mains arrived in the perfect ammount of time after our starters, having always been curious about pad Thai I chose it and was not dissapointed the flavour was sensational, the duck portion was a perfect size with it and again very nicely cooked, my partner had a tofu dish and said it was one of the best thai experiences she has had. We will definately be going back again, we had 3 starters, two mains and two sides of rice, two bottles of beer and two lime and soda and it came to £50, a very fair price for an exceptionally good meal and lovely dining experience. Thank you Thai Sabai, we will see you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot a good experience. Ordered a takeaway which was very expensive for two people, chinese or Indian would have cost half as much so we expected great things. How wrong we were. The starter was very small (mixed starter for two) and the Tom Yam hot & sour soup was neither hot nor sour, more like a flavourless broth with mushrooms and some squid. I've had better from a supermarket. Pad thai was not bad, I've had better but also worse. Overall a pretty disappointing meal, especially considering what we paid. Next time we'll go with something else. Paying via bank transfer to a personal bank account made me feel uneasy, also, perhaps a sniff of tax evasion at work there. Dodgy the say the...
