Tuk Tuk Asian Bistro
A Tuk-Tuk, known in Thai as âSam Lorâ (literally 'three wheels'), is an open-air vehicle, of dubious safety standards, it has to be said. Take it from one who has hurtled around the streets of Bangkok in the back seat: itâs truly terrifying! Its unique name came from the noisy engines on the earliest models, and you canât miss Tuk Tuk Asian Bistro in Bangor due to the quirky eponymous blue & yellow vehicle parked outside.
Featuring traditional dishes from across South East Asia, the interior also colourfully reflects the variety and authenticity of the menu featuring dishes from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia & Malaysia. The friendly enthusiastic staff are knowledgeable and will tailor the dishes to suit. All ingredients are bought fresh daily and everything we tried was of a very high standard.
The starter of sweet, tangy Fresh Som Tam Salad had a terrific chilli heat (this can be adjusted to taste) and the Vietnamese Salmon Fish Cakes were packed full of flavour.
To follow, the Thai Panang King Prawn Curry, the boldest of all Thai curries with its rich distinctive flavour, fragrant with coconut milk, lime leaf, fish sauce, & basil, was delicious, and one of our favourite dishes, Salt & Chilli Tofu, was a perfect vegetarian option. All served with Jasmine Rice, this was an outstanding culinary trip around Asia.
We finished with some deep fried custard doughnuts with coconut ice cream which were just as good as they sound!
So, for a simple, relaxing dining experience with Asian ambiance, Tuk Tuk Asian...
Read moreFirst visit to Tuk Tuk Bangor with some friends. My friends meals were good but the Sea Bass dish was very poor. The fish was overcooked and so tough I couldn't get my knife to cut it, so most of it was left on the plate. My sea bass dish should have had crispy onions as per the menu but sadly there were no crispy onions. When I asked the server where the crispy onions were he replied there are onions in the dish, that was the end of the explanation with no reason given as to why there were no crispy onions. When I paid the bill I informed the staff my fish was overcooked, not even an apology was offered or a reduction on the bill or a voucher for a few quid to get me to go back. I don't plan in going back! I also don't remember us being asked if we would like a coffee/tea after our meal. We were told we had to vacate our table by 9pm but we only received our bill after we asked for it which was already after 9pm. There didn't seem to be anyone arriving for our table when we hurriedly left after paying the bill but no-one said you don't have to leave at 9 tonight as your table is not required for another sitting. Overall very poor information...
Read moreFood is excellent. Service & timing poor! Be prepared for Deliveries to be late, if youâre on a schedule forget about it. Food was 2hrs late for delivery on 1st occasion & over an hour late 2nd,both for family celebrations & large orders for 8ppl+, cost ÂŁ100+. The most recent occasion in December2021 my wife called early at opening time. When it didnât show we called & the receptionist said it wonât be long. Called again 30 min later, they thought they had put the phone on hold & shouted to the kitchen- they had recorded the order for Sunday instead of Saturday & that it needs started; then lied to Mrs advising it was nearly ready. She stated that she just heard everything. We offered to collect as we only live 600metres up the hill but werenât allowed. Delivery lady arrived & we explained that twice delivery has been late, that we loved the food but that element needs improved. She apologised & said she would pass that onto the manager and they would be in touch. 2 months later - nothing! No attempt to rectify and secure customers therefore voting with feet & poor review for the service &...
