Came here for a birthday lunch. The atmosphere here was very fine; fresh flowers in a glass of water on every table, a very broad menu in comparison to other 'fine dining' restaurants. The dishes were delicious.
Me and my sister got an appetizer- Mozzarella in Carrozza. I wish i could upload videos of the cross section, but it was mouth watering. The mozzarella block inside was melted to gooey perfection, and it was complimented well by the spicy sauce. My sister can't take spicy, at all. She hates spicy food. But she tried a bit of the sauce with the cheese, and i found her scooping up the sauce to eat with the cheese.. The flavors complement so well that the spiciness kick of the sauce mellows out and balances with the cheese.
I ordered Gnocchi Al Salmone, and it was positively delicious. Normally, I don't eat zucchini, (or vegetables of that family like cucumber ), but the zucchini was so soft, it melted in my mouth with the gnocchi and the white sauce, (which I'm sure had cheese in it), and the salmon separated easily and was cooked thoroughly. Every bite was a perfect blend of flavor, and i managed to like everything about it. (whilst being a picky eater).
I tasted my sister's Lobster Ravioli which she ordered, and it was also delicious.
I think the staff were Italian based on accent, but either way, everything was delicious, and left a pleasant aftertaste, too. The price is reflected in the quality of food; perfection. Would love...
Read moreThe gnocchi al salmone was absolutely awful, bland, flavourless, weird texture( like a kids meal) and the salmon tasted out of date.
It was worse than airplane food.
The waitress was also equally unhelpful and unbothered. When i told her i wasnt happy with the food she was unbothered and didnt react in the usual way you'd expect from a restaurant, let alone a place of this standard. After requesting a few ingredients to improve the taste, she hurridly put it on the table and walked off, she then proceeded to not come back to ask if the foods any better now. Usually one would expect the staff, after being informed a customer severely disliked the food, to come back and check , or offer alternatives. Neither occured. She only came back 20minutes later to ask "are you finished", at which point I had to further explain my disgruntlment , only to be told "this is what you ordered". Paolos is clearly an upper class establishment based off of the decor and pricing, naturally one expects better service from staff. It was a terrific shame to have recieved such awful service, which left an even fouler taste in my mouth than the good. Albeit , the calamari...
Read moreBooked a table for my 70th birthday. We chose this place because we holiday in Italy, know the food etc and read some good reviews. OK let's review and review honestly. The service was second to none. Attentive waiting on staff, so pleasant, and if you'll forgive an old man the luxury, very pleasant on the eye. But it's a restaurant and it's the food that's important. We both had risotto, mine being seafood. Now I love risotto and I have to say we were disappointed. Neither were seasoned particularly well and when I have to leave a considerable amount of squid because it was so rubbery in texture I wonder who was supervising. We went on Saturday afternoon. Perhaps the cooking was left to junior chefs because it was not the standard I would expect from your reviews. Perhaps the reviewers haven't tasted authentic Italian cuisine. In fact my companion told me that my own risotto dishes tasted better and that she was disappointed. I feel that it's an average place. Certainly overpriced for the quality of the fare and not worthy of the quality reviews it receives based...
