This is mainly for the lack of communication and complete disregard for any kind of consideration for allergies, intolerances and dietary preference. My daughter has dairy and egg allergies and I always have to confirm with any food establishments as to what their procedures are. I initially emailed "Bill's" in Nottingham explaining the above with regards to my daughter's allergies. I got an email back from a Charlotte Flannery, who was regional reservations manager, so I thought some time and effort would've gone into the reply. How wrong I was. It was a standard, copy and paste reply. "They cater for most allergies" and "check the online menu" with a link and then "they can't guarantee anything". I was very disappointed, especially for a large chain. I wrote back saying I was very underwhelmed with the response, considering how serious allergies are and the wrong food could potentially kill people. I had already checked the menu anyway, as that is why I contacted them in the first place! Now, with regards to the menu, it's a joke. I have attached a screenshot of the very top of the menu. As you can see, it says not all ingredients are shown!! So how can you even begin to look at ordering anything safely? I was also told to "hover" over the menu items, which again, I'd done already. Why did Miss Flannery think I was getting in touch? I needed to know their procedures and what is put in place. Obviously she couldn't be bothered. Taking my daughter out of the equation, what about vegans and vegetarian's, how can they choose anything if all ingredients aren't shown? Who knows what anything is being cooked in? Against my better judgement, we ended up going there, as my partner has been there a few times and likes it and this was the best of a bad bunch (Faraday's, springs to mind). This review is mainly about how they treat allergies anyway. We got there and there was nothing on the menu that was suitable or my daughter wanted. Please bear in mind that she is a teenager and quite a fussy eater! Normally nuggets and chips are a safe bet. I couldn't see nuggets on the menu and when I asked about chips, I explained the situation with regards to my daughter's allergies and they didn't have a clue! In fact, when I asked about cross contamination, I got asked "Do you want me to ask the chef"!! It shouldn't be my job to ask them to do that. There should be strict procedures in place, considering the seriousness of this. Anyway I got the reply that "they couldn't guarantee cross contamination" Just wow! So apparently they cater for most allergies and have vegan and vegetarian items on the menu, but they can't show all ingredients and can't guarantee cross contamination! It sounds like something that should be on Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. Now on the flip side, Hickory's and Harvester are absolutely fantastic. On to the food. The kids seemed to enjoy it, except that my son's burger was cold. I ordered "Eggs Royale", which to be perfectly honest was quite bland. The Bottom rolls were quite tough. The was a small egg and a bit of salmon and the sauce didn't have much flavour and for £14.50, seemed expensive for what it was. If the food was nice, I would say so. Sorry for the long review, but I'm always thorough with everything. Things need to change, especially in this world where everyone and everything is catered for. Just for context, I'm still waiting for a reply from Miss Flannery, nearly three weeks later from the date of...
Read moreAbsolutely appalled at the way some of the staff made me feel. Took our Grandchildren there for their breakfast as they really wanted the pancakes. The guy who took the order, after the order had been placed, asked if there were any allergies. My eldest Granddaughter mentioned her sister had an allergy to milk. Rather than asking me about this, I had another member of staff demanding she has the vegan option. The only reason I agreed to this was because both children were hungry and I felt very intimidated. My youngest Granddaughter eats ice cream, drinks milk shakes and has cheese on her Pizza!! She has a slight intolerance to green milk if she drinks too much of it,in the form of a slight rash; but that intolerance is better. She's fine, with milk in food. So, also rang my daughter in law to double check. Yes, she can eat the pancakes! What a surprise!!! The vegan one arrived and she found it stodgy and inedible. Good job it was "Kids eat for free week' because one of them didn't eat at all. Never going back to this place. Check your facts and trust that parents and grandparents know their own children/grandchildren. Ask about allergies before taking the order, and listen to the adults in the room; not the 8 and 5 year old children. Disgusting service. I will be contacting head office. Also kids don't eat for free, the restaurant/ho just add an extra few £'s on to the rest of the menu. We know...
Read moreI went here for the bottomless pancakes which were £7.50 and they were very good, syrup was slightly lacking leaving them a little dry but I’m sure if you asked they’d be happy to supply you with more. The option for unlimited hot drinks or champagne with the pancakes for extra was also very appealing and well priced.
Service was wonderful, our server, Richard, was new but was incredibly helpful and made us laugh several times making the experience much better than average.
Prices are reasonable and there is a student discount if you’re not ordering from a set menu or a deal. The atmosphere and interior design and good and everything was cleaned to a very high standard.
There is an optional service charge included, as this is optional I’m sure you can remove it but due to the quality of the service and food we decided to keep it on there, I’m sure they would have no issue removing it but it is questionable to include one as standard and it has had an impact on other reviews as you can read.
Overall this was a good first experience and a good way to spend pancake day. I’m excited to come back for a full meal sometime, the rest of the menu...
