If I had to choose one word to sum up my time at Bombay Delicatessen, it would be disappointed.

Myself and some friends were excited and hungry after a days hard work, I approached the counter, and asked the male staff member who took my order if I could have the Masala Chai more spicier, he said "no, it just comes like that." The way he spoke to me was rude, like he did not care (No customer service at all), if I was on my own, I would have just left, The male staff member, took my name, not sure why and no receipt was given. (I visited a week before and purchased a lamb samosa and a masala tea, I thought the lamb samosa was too soft and not crunchy enough and not spicy either. The masala tea was sweet but not spicy at all. I could have purchased masala tea bags and could have made this at home (but I could have made this better and more authentically at home without tea bags). The tamarind-like sauce that came with the samosa was the only spicy thing that day. Which is why I wanted to return, I could not base my experience on these two items alone).

I sat down and once my friends ordered their bits, they followed suit. I received my tea, and shortly after received my Pakora's, Bhaji's and spring roll came. Both the Pakora and the Bhaji's both weren't as crispy as I thought they should be, it was more soft, not something that I would expect. I took a sip of my tea, it was cold!!! I had to ask for another one, this time, the tea was piping hot, I could see steam rising, they got it right, this time. The only tasty thing that I ordered was the paneer spring roll, more-ish!

Now, I was still considering returning with my partner, but the events of the rest of our time were ruined by the members of staff. One of the female members of staff who either clocked off or visited with her group of friends was taking pictures of the four - five male members of staff who were on shift, they were posing for these pictures, talking in their own language. The staff had a very relaxed manner, one member of staff was talking to another staff member with his arm on the others shoulder. One staff member, was wearing black gloves (as most staff members did, to handle food), opened the door by the door handle with the same hand the glove was worn on (I do hope he changed his gloves, made my stomach churn) as he saw his friends outside. He was stood by the door smoking and talking to his friends. Might I add, we sat near the this door, and the smell of smoke was horrible.

It is safe to say I will not be returning to this Bombay Delicatessen. If I could give 0 stars I would. The staff needs to do much better, I speak the same language as the staff members, but it was not needed at all. It's great that they get along but work better, there are no standards. The food needs to be more authentic, cooked to a better standard and adjusted to different palettes.

I'm trying to come up with something nice to say... cans of Thums up (great!), twinkly, instrumental music (great), seating (comfy)... Overall,...

Delicious food and decent value for money. Love their 2 for 1 cocktails on Friday and Saturday offer, in addition to the wide variety of food options.

I must commend Holly at the counter not just for her service, attitude, quality of customer service but also for the excellent cocktails she made and how she recovered a recent negative customer experience as one of the younger lads working there forgot my order and was distracted by looking after his sister and their friends rather than equivalently looking after all customers.

Holly quickly corrected my order, was very friendly and apologetic and the picture of perfect customer service, recovering my customer experience immediately upon being made aware.

The food is delicious and the takeaway quantity is good value for money - which prevents me from ordering on Deliveroo.

I'm South Asian and from Delhi, so this is the closest match to food that tastes almost like home that I can get in the UK. It's been a really nice space to ground myself and their food and cocktails are worth a try. I particularly appreciate the Indo Chinese food options and creative dessert options with an Indian twist, including the breakfast options! Definitely worth a try!! Ther interiors are lovely and the outside seating space ample. Very nice ambience and as a city centre business that gets busy I'm sure their customer service will keep improving.

I really appreciate that it's in the city centre and a family-run business that took care to recover my experience after the wobble. The owner is lovely and very customer service-minded. I appreciated the lengths gone to by both the young lad who forgot my order and other staff who were careful to check on me after missing my order and needing me to follow up. They were apologetic which I sincerely appreciated. They were also kind enough to make up for it by providing me not just with an apology but some delicious samosas - totally unexpected and deeply appreciated.

I now feel bad for the young lad but aah well, that's how customers roll 🫣😬

Lovely establishment and definitely...

We recently visited Bombay delicatessen in Nottingham, a food court style dining establishment specialising in authentic Mumbai street food, North Indian curries, breads, and a delightful selection of Indian sweets like ladoos, barfis, and gulab jamuns. After hearing glowing reviews, we took a 45 minute drive to check it out, and it was absolutely worth it!

The convenience of a paid parking area right next to the restaurant made things much easier. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff at the counter, who patiently guided us through the menu.

Here’s what we ordered: • Lamb Karahi: Cooked to perfection with tender, flavorful lamb pieces. The spices were balanced, and the dish truly captured the essence of traditional North Indian cooking. • Chicken Tikka & Salmon Tikka: Both were incredibly succulent and juicy, with just the right amount of marination. The smoky, grilled flavor was spot on. • Chicken Biryani: Aromatic, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. It hit all the right notes for a satisfying biryani experience. • Garlic & Coriander Naan: Fluffy, warm, and fragrant, perfectly complementing the curries.

For dessert, I decided to try one gulab jamun, but it was so soft, syrupy, and absolutely delicious that I ended up having four! We were so full by the end of the meal that we couldn’t sample other sweets like ladoos and barfis, but those are definitely on my list for next time.

Overall, Bombay delicatessen delivered an authentic and memorable dining experience. The food quality, friendly service, and vibrant atmosphere make this place a must visit for anyone craving genuine Indian flavors. I’ll definitely be returning soon to explore more of their snacks and sweets!

Absolutely fabulous and will be returning 100%. Booked in for the Bombay high chai, swiftly seated and served delicious masala tea. We were kept well topped up with this over the course of our visit. The food was... Something else. You can tell it's been years of family recipes crafted with the highest amount of love and attention to detail. I've not had Indian food like this before. The ?owner came out and gave us a run-through of every item on the platter, he was very knowledgeable and passionate about everything being served. Lovely to see but it was all I could do to not start demolishing it while he was going though it. Poppadoms were served first with a mixture of chutneys and blackberry jam which I think was spiced. Sublime. The food potions were generous, by samosa 2 I was sweating. We had to take the cakes home, for which boxes were happily provided for. When I had the cakes later they were incredible. More than worth the money, keep up the excellent work!! The setting itself was lovely, the only thing is it was a bit cold, even with a radiator right next to us.

Food was generally flavourful. Chicken pakora was dry. I had to ask for mint chutney with my kebab after I’d sat down and food had been delivered, by queuing in the long queue again, which is a bit disappointing as my food had obviously gone cold by this time. I asked for some chutney from the lady, who I will describe later, and she shook her head and directed me towards the till and told me I had to pay for it (which I didn’t have to after I’d queued). The light-skinned, short, larger set lady is extremely rude. Tried to close the till after I’d got to the front after queuing, and asked me how many more times I was going to order and come to the till, and if my order was going to be long. This not how you treat people bringing their custom to your restaurant, even I know this, and I don’t work in customer service. Was extremely disappointed. Customers aren’t always right, but she left a bad taste in my mouth. I will not be returning, which is a shame because I’ve heard such good things about the food and been following them on Instagram from the start.
