If you're looking to go out for a meal but don't want a "cheap Wetherspoons experience" nor a "expensive formal restaurant" experience, then The Ned Ludd in Nottingham is what you've been looking for.
The interior décor and atmosphere far exceeds the "pub/restaurants" that are ten-a-penny these days - No, this is more sophisticated than that yet still informal. On selected nights (I went on a Tuesday night) you can enjoy live music whilst you drink and or eat - I was treated to the talents of 'Mood Indigo', a kind of swing/jazz duo - both of whom were excellent.
If you are looking for the "usual fare" in regards to drink (Carlsberg, Carling, Fosters, John Smiths etc.,) you need to look elsewhere - The Ned Ludd serves real ales from local and independent breweries (most of the ales that the Navigation Brewery create are currently available) and national and international beers/lagers. Though more expensive than the aforementioned "generic" drinks, you do tend to savour the drink more since it is tastier and often stronger than you might be used to .... you can order many of them in third, half and full pint measures too which helps if you're looking to try many different drinks yet still plan on walking out on your own two feet!
The food was excellent. In fact, just a read of the menu is refreshing since it contains many items not to be found on standard pub or restaurant menus and there is an obvious emphasis on local produce. I had a 'Nottingham Pie' and cannot describe how delicious it was. The 'Goose Fair Mushy Peas' certainly complemented it nicely as did the rich gravy in a separate jug.
The staff are attentive but not intrusive, especially the manager - there was an error with our food order which led to a 45 minute delay and although we simply asked the waitress if our food had been forgotten, the manager was over to us immediately and did more than I thought was necessary to rectify the problem.
In summary, if you want a few after-work drinks, or somewhere nice but informal to take your partner for drinks and/or a meal ... or simply want to treat your Mum to a night out and a good meal, The Ned Ludd in Nottingham is a great choice. And one I will...
Read moreVery rude and arrogant staff.. Went on a Sunday night for a quiet drink with a friend..it was not busy apart from some regulars who were sat near the bar and well engaged with the bar staff..I asked the bartender if they would welcome some feedback on the loudness of music..it was far too load you couldn't hear yourself talking.. The bartender was not interested at all , instead she went to the table next to the bar she was repeating what I said to the table..there was about 8 people.. They started laughing and suggested I went elsewhere..actually the manager to me to go elsewhere and maybe listen to Opera instead. I told them the staff were very unprofessional and at that point the manager told me not to talk to the members of staff about being unprofessional..at that point the whole crowd near the bar managers clearly the bar managers friends were trying to make a mockery of me .My friend who has recently.been diagnosed with a brian tumour was most upset and so was I. With over 45 years experience in the hospitality trade I have never seen a place which has staff so arrogant and disrespectful.. Whilst I was I there I also noticed the place was filthy ..run down and the toilets were very unhygienic.. Not surprising as all the bartenders were seen upon spending more time with the crowd near the bar instead of checking and ensuring the premises and its surroundings are fit for purpose. I would strongly NOT recommend this place for a social drink.. I will also be notifying the Hygiene Agency and the Licensed Authorities about certain...
Read moreMy wife and I visited here on sunday afternoon and sat outside in the nice weather... We have frequented here a lot in the past as it's always been a pleasant experience and never had any problems... On this occasion the accident happened when I returned from a 'visit ' and put my hand on the fake grass barriers to help me sit down and it gave way and propelled me almost into the road resulting in bruising to my back and a cut on my leg... My wife went to inform staff of said incident and was told " he shouldn't have lent on it then"... She then asked to see manager and was told they were not in today... At not one point did the staff inquire as to my well being or attempted to fix said fake grass barriers ( they was not attached or secured)... My wife and I are both in our sixties and a fall of any sort can be problematic as can imagine... I have sent them multiple emails regarding this occurrence but have yet to receive a reply... It's because of the lack of response from management that I have felt a need to leave this review on here when a simple apology and a bit of care for your customers would have nipped this in the bud....
