The LoveCoffeeCo on the High Street has so many recent glowing 5 star reviews I was almost embarrassed to post one with fewer stars! After our visit I began to wonder how many of these reviewers have visited truly amazing coffee/tea establishments before? But for an honest review, from a major local guide particularly in London, who posts a lot of reviews for hospitality, this place didn't really 'do it' for us. Yes it was popularly busy-extremely busy in fact, as a High Street location in a city bursting with locals, visitors and tourists, but service was nevertheless fast enough. The staff were working so fast that at one point a pastry was flung across our table by accident hitting my leg and ending up under our table on the floor (which my son spotted had a dust/hair ball under it!) with the staff member hastily returning said item to staff behind the counter! Coffee was decent enough, my 25 year old son could vouch for that, but my tea was poor. Fair enough, it's not a specialist tea shop, but a coffee shop/cafe. But a nondescript tea bag thrown into a mug of hot water without being offered any alternatives was disappointing (as was the flavor, perhaps inevitably). What ever happened to a tea pot or even loose tea for example. Even the pretty naff stainless steel versions rather than a nice china pot would have been better than my offering. The milk arrived shortly after (in a mini stainless steel jug). I'm more of a coffee drinker, but sometimes when you fancy a cake in the afternoon, tea just fits the bill! Finally, here there were just too many tables and too many customers in chairs too basic to make it a comfortable relaxing experience . Giving the feeling that they didn't want you to hang around too long, outstaying your welcome?. It may be better outside of weekends, but the seating was not mostly conducive to a comfortable visit. We certainly didn't see much in the way of sofas/armchairs, which great coffee houses have and the big chains 'attempt' to emulate. I had to plonk my backpack down almost on one of the next to tables occupants feet to get him to move them away from our table. We had been directed to a two seater stuck out in the middle of the cafe close to the 'loos'. With another round table squeezed directly behind us of 5 customers, and the only route to the said loos between us all, my son had to endure being pushed past by those needing to 'spend their penny'. The loos could also do with an extra cubicle in such a busy place, my memory makes me think there was just the one. Often an afterthought in cafes but important. I strongly suggest removing our table when it's busy guys. We never complained or tried to move tables, there being little point as there were none free and we were there to enjoy a drink not to raise issues. The time for that is when you review. So, if you want just a quick pit stop, go when it doesn't look over-full, the coffee is ok, and there's a decent large selection of cakes etc (regular quality at this visit). Maybe not if you're a tea drinker or want to chill away from the bustle of a popular city centre. Opinions are solely those of myself and guest/son. PS It's high time Google offered the option of star ratings for drinks too, especially for coffee houses/shops/cafes. Not just for food/service/atmosphere. Oxford was...

Read moreI’ve been studying in Oxford for 4 years and this is the first place where I experienced racism/sexism. I found a review saying this place doesn’t welcome foreigners and I prove this correct. Please check your CCTV and investigate this because this is intolerable. So this is what happened:
My friend and I sat in a corner table while having drinks. (Tbf the hot chocolate was good) Then my friend took out her laptop to show me something. Apparently waiters here have eagles eyes and after 10 seconds opening the laptop, a waiter came to tell us that using laptops is not allowed in this place. We apologized and put it back immediately. After a while, two white guys sitting at the middle high table started using their laptop for 15min and no one asked them to stop even if the SAME waiter passed by many times. So we thought maybe the cafe wasn’t busy atm so we also use ours. Due to respect before taking out our laptop, we asked the same waiter if we can use the laptop now and he said no. We were really confused and pointed out that the two guys were using theirs so the waiter said he would stop them. He later put his arms around the guys and started chatting with them super friendly for several minutes before they put their laptops back.
We wonder if we were treated differently bc of our race or gender since we were sitting in the corner and the guys were sitting in the middle high table so it’s impossible that we were more noticeable, or if it’s the only case because of one person or this is the culture of this cafe.
Anyways we will NEVER come back and make sure everyone around us knows this unless there’s a reasonable...
