We visited Christ Church with my wife and 2-year-old daughter. While the visit was lovely, I don’t believe it was worth the price. Many areas inside were closed to visitors, although the dining hall is quite an experience, especially if you're a Harry Potter fan. However, if you've visited historical sites in the north of the UK, the price might feel disappointing. That said, it was still a pleasant experience overall.
The reason I gave 1 star isn't because of this. If the following hadn't happened, I would have given 5 stars.
After our tour, we went into the shop to look for souvenirs. I was with my daughter so my wife could shop. As you can imagine with a 2-year-old, they want to explore and touch things, but I was right behind her to ensure she didn’t damage anything.
Within 2-3 minutes, I noticed that one of the store assistants, a middle-aged woman, was staring at us. I thought I might be imagining it, so we moved to a different part of the shop, but she followed us, still keeping an eye on us. It was unsettling and made me feel very uncomfortable, so I picked my daughter up to prevent her from touching anything.
At that point, my daughter saw a small plush toy and picked it up. It was just a cloth plush, and there was no way she could damage it. Then, the store assistant rushed over and asked, "Are you buying this?" I was taken aback and replied, "I don't know, we haven't decided yet." Without any hesitation, she rudely snatched the toy from my daughter’s hand and said, "You might damage it."
Both my wife and I were in shock, and our daughter started crying. We were so upset by the situation that we left the store without purchasing anything. Our daughter even said she was scared, which is heartbreaking as this could have lasting effects on her.
We will never visit this shop again, and I would not recommend it to anyone, especially families with...
Read moreWhilst I was on holiday in Oxford Queen Elizabeth II died. Like the rest of the Country i cried, grieved and wanted to go to a church to sign the book of condolence and pay my respects. I read in the news that Christ Church Cathedral had a book of condolence and that churches in England were open for general public to come to find solace. Official guidance issued on Thursday evening jointly by Lambeth and Bishopthorpe Palaces, provides a detailed framework for parishes.Churches and cathedrals have been asked to prepare for an influx of visitors seeking solace. “It is expected that the death of Her Majesty the Queen will be a time of significant national mourning and parish churches will play a key role in the life of the nation,” says the guidance. The next day I arrived at the door and a man who was a member of staff in his late 60's rushed at me " what are you here for?" He barked at me in a very irritated and angry way. I explained that I would like to take one of THEIR pieces of paper from THEIR table, sit down and reflect and write my message. He stood in front of me and told me to leave as they weren't receiving visitors at the moment even though everyone around me was visiting and writing on the pieces of paper, he accused me of using the condolence book as an excuse to get a free visit. I had to plead with him to let me write in the condolence book, eventually he let me through the Church door. I was very upset, what a hateful man, no compassion, empathy or manners and totally misunderstands what Christianity/ Humanity is all about. I'm so glad I don't live my...
Read moreVery rude staff member!!! The college is a very beautiful building from the outside and I am sure also worth seeing from the inside. Sadly the I didn't have the age to get inside due to my age. To wit, students under the age of 18 are not permitted to visit the college without an adult. I (16 years old) would accept this rule, if it is either clearly marked or staff members would have told me while I was buying the ticket. But this unfortunatly was not the case. The tickets have to be pre- booked, so I brought my ticket 1,5 hours at the counter. The men sold me a student ticket without asking for my student ID. The ticket costs £17 for students, which is very much, for just a couple of rooms in the college. So after these 1,5 hours I came back to pick up the audio guide. This was also not a problem, until another staff member came. She asked very impolitely, how old I am. I told her my age. Then she literally ripped the audio guide out of my hand. She shouted at me that I can not go into the college with this age and without an adult. I said to her that I already paid and I didn't know about the rule. She depicted the situation as if it was my fault and refused to refund me my money of the ticket. After a long discussion I got my money back. I think it is a shame to treat costumers with such rudeness! It was a waste of time to go there, I could have seen a lot more beautiful places in Oxford...
