The Oxford Wine Cellar — Restaurant in Oxford

Really disappointed as a regular customer I like to pop in after work but now I can’t bring myself to return. I ordered x2 glasses of wine and a cheeseboard to share with my dad who rarely visit. When the cheese board arrived the cheese seemed a little ‘old’ but was still OK/passable with wine after a very long day. However the grapes were completely rotten the bottoms had totally dropped out and they were blue with mould. I was completely embarrassed as I had assured my dad that the place was great. When the waiter popped over to ask if everything was ok I mentioned the grapes and he said ew yeah they are gross. When the bill came he said as a gesture of goodwill I have taken a little something off the bill. He had taken £1.80 off the bill… I’d rather he not bothered that’s almost more insulting to a regular customer than to have not acted at all. The Oxford Wine Cellar offers a great selection of wines and has a beautiful setting that promises a delightful experience. However, the service could use some improvement, though it’s somewhat forgivable. The main issue is that the atmosphere is severely affected by loud and disruptive children. While I understand that family-friendly places are important, it’s unacceptable for a venue that charges premium prices for wine to allow such disturbances. I was unable to fully enjoy my glass of wine due to the noise, and unfortunately, the staff did not address the situation.

I left after just one glass when I was planning to order much more.

A group of five of us went to the Organic and Natural Wine tasting event last night and had a fantastic time. The sommelier (I think his name is Matt but I could be mistaken, sorry!) was super knowledgeable, passionate about wine and really engaging. He'd chosen a variety of interesting and high quality wines for us to try, and gave a great explanation of each one. This was our second tasting here and we'll definitely be back - it's such a fun way to learn about wine and try something new. We stayed on for a delicious dinner afterwards. Thanks...
