Mei’s Kitchen — Where the Chow Mein is Hot, the Portions are Generous, and You Leave Wondering Why You Ordered So Much (But Glad You Did)
Mei’s Kitchen in Perranporth is one of those places that makes you feel smug about your takeaway choices before you’ve even opened the bag. The food was cooked swiftly, so fast, in fact, I suspect they’ve got a team of ninjas back there, and ready to pick up before we’d even finished debating which sides to get.
We went all-in with a variety of chow mein dishes (each one tastier than the last), some sweet and sour chicken that was perfectly crispy and tangy, and an impressive line-up of side options that made it very hard not to just say “one of everything, please.”
The portions? Generous enough that you start convincing yourself you’re “saving some for tomorrow” even as you’re secretly plotting to eat it all tonight. There was a good, satisfying bit of heat where you’d expect it, and everything tasted fresh and full of flavour, nothing limp or bland about it.
Overall? Very satisfying, very tasty, very good value and very likely to have you loosening your waistband afterwards.
If you’re in Perranporth and fancy a proper, no-fuss, flavour-packed Chinese, get yourself to Mei’s Kitchen. Just don’t forget to pace yourself, those portions...

We were told 20 minutes for our order to be ready to pick up, which was fine, so we decided to walk up the road to kill time. We went back in plenty of time to pick up our order.....45 minutes is how long we waited! There was people in there who had telephoned there order through and were waiting just as long. One customer was waiting 10 minutes to place an order but when no-one came out from the back, he walked out!. The lady taking the orders at the counter didn't at any point come out to tell us there was a delay untill one of us actually asked her! After all that, my chicken curry (if you can call it that!) was awful and ended up in the bin. I've given 2 stars (but the food deserve only 1star) because the lady was friendly and smiley at the beginning and you could see she was struggling at the end, it really wasn't her fault. I definitely won't be returning to...
Read moreAfter a long day we decided to order a takeaway to have back at the caravan and what a massive let down it was! Our £44 order was - Salt & pepper chips, Salt & pepper chicken, Chips, Special fried rice, Curry sauce, Prawn toast, Crackers. The rice was dry, the chips looked and tasted like they was cooked this morning and left out all day. The salt & pepper chicken and chips was inedible due to the amount of white pepper used they went in the bin but the crackers, curry sauce and toast was ok. I did phone up and complain and was greeted with everything is fresh and the salt pepper mix as been used for 20 years. I was offered more of the same food which I turned down and no mention...
