After yesterdays steak shenanigans I can confirm that I had one of the nicest steaks I’ve had in a very long time at Steak & Omelette in Plymouth!! Highly recommend #steakhouse #steaktiktok #datenight #foodreview #plymouth

Came here yesterday with my partner for date night after we were very lucky to book a table. It was very busy when we arrived and we were asked to wait a little longer but this was fine as the staff were so helpful and polite and brought drinks outside to a table for us where we could wait. They were also taking part in the Eat Out Help Out scheme so it must have been very stressful with how packed it was but all staff were incredible. After apologising for the wait we were led to a really comfortable booth and a waiter quickly took our orders. We both had a 10oz sirloin with peas, chips and tomatoes and pepper sauce. The food was wonderful - I had no complaints. Really well seasoned steak, the chips were great, the sauce was delicious... The PEAS! I've never been so impressed by peas. The waiter quickly took our empty plates and offered a dessert menu but we were stuffed! We did get one more drink then they brought us the bill. The service was spectacular and the atmosphere very cosy and welcoming. Will return and definitely recommend!

This restaurant has been here for 56 years & it is a favourite haunt of the locals. It is recommended that you reserve a table as it gets very busy. The menu obviously has a selection of steaks & omelettes but also several continental dishes. Slow cooked lamb kleftico; beef or chicken Strogonoff amongst them. Also classics like gammon steaks & ham, egg & chips. The Halloumi fries with chilli dip starter were the best part of my meal. I ordered a cheese omelette & wanted an extra filling of fried onions for an extra 50p. Instead they gave me a side portion of them, charging £4 & they were burnt. I ordered an Affogato (ice cream topped with an espresso) for dessert. The menu stated £4.50 but I was charged £5 for it on the bill. Our waiter was super attentive & friendly but the pricing discrepencies were confusing. Our table used the menu prices to calculate what we owed but there was a shortfall. Fair enough that prices have increased due to the ever rising cost of ingredients but they need to reflect any price increases on the menu.

Every time we return to Plymouth, we make it a point to visit the beloved Steak & Omelette, our go-to steakhouse. Our last night in the city during this visit happened to be on a Thursday, and we wanted to ensure it was a memorable one, so we chose the S&O. As always, it did not disappoint.

For 5 generations, our family has cherished this establishment, gathering here for family reunions, birthdays, quick lunches, and many rounds of G&Ts since its opening in the 1960s. Needless to say, our love for it runs deep.

The warm welcome we receive upon arrival always makes us feel at home, and the service is consistently cheerful, attentive, and caring. Philip, we miss you, but your colleagues are carrying on your legacy with pride!

We started our meal with calamari, mussels, and scallops. Each dish was perfectly cooked, with tender calamari boasting a golden, crispy coating. The scallops were served on their actual shells, a testament to their freshness. The mussels, cooked in a cream and white wine sauce with a touch of fresh rosemary, were a delightful surprise. Despite having enjoyed mussels in various countries and restaurants, we had never experienced them with rosemary before, and it was a winning combination. Everything was absolutely delicious.

For our main course, we decided to share the Côte de Boeuf among the three of us. Cooked to a perfect medium and accompanied by chips, peas, grilled tomatoes, and Al's Onions (a must-try!), it was a true and honest culinary dream. While various sauce options were available, I prefer my quality steak served simply.

To complement our meal, we chose a Primitivo di Manduria (62 anniversario). Being fans of Primitivo, we were delighted by its exceptional quality and how well it paired with our food.

In summary, it was yet another fantastic dinner at this genuinely friendly restaurant, with a front-of-house staff that truly takes care of you, and talented chefs (thank you, Josh!). We extend our gratitude to the entire team for never failing to impress. We can't wait to return home to Plymouth and indulge in the delights of the Steak &...

(Detailed review below) Food & Drink ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ambience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Accessibility ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cost ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Summary ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Food & Drink 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Having been a patron of the Steak and Omelette Bar for over 40 years(!), I actually know little about their menu, apart from the fact, that in my humble opinion, they have the best Angus Steaks in Plymouth. I've never had a bad meal here, and the chips are amazing. We usually only have a main course, as we're too full for anything else, but on this occasion (someone else was paying!) we attempted the three courses. All were really good. The homemade banoffee pie is to die for!

Ambience 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited on a Tuesday early evening, the day after the COVID-19 Eat out to Help Out offer had ended, and it was still fairly busy. However, the restaurant has been very well laid out to cope with social distancing while maintaining a good ambience.

Accessibility 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The entrance, toilets and seating area are wheelchair accessible and on the same level, although the toilets are quite small and look like they could do with modernising. Perfect clean, and OK though.

Cost 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The cost of the food and drinks is in line with what I would expect to pay for a restaurant meal in Plymouth. The bill came to ~£150 for 4 people, but considering two of us had the most expensive steaks, this wasn't bad.

Service 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The service was is always excellent here. It seems that every one of their staff is engaging, funny and knowledgeable.

Summary 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Steak & Omelette Bar is one of the mainstays of my Plymouth restaurant experience. It had failed to disappoint me in over 40 years, and keeps going strong. The steaks are the best in Plymouth, and we will keep coming back as long as...

We went for a lovely night away in Plymouth Christmas shopping and saw this restaurant. Looked very nice from the outside with a great menu so decided to eat there . The male member of staff who served us was such a nice friendly guy . We looked at the menu and to my great delight they were serving lemon sole , my favourite dish of all time . We had a great starter and my partners steak was delicious but I was very disappointment in the fish , it just didn’t taste right. Something was wrong ,not the fresh delicate taste I’m used to . The owner ( I think he was the owner ) came over as he noticed I wasn’t eating it ,I told him I wasn’t enjoying the taste to which he took it way and then told me , I had really upset the chef and that he thought it tasted alright!! I was very surprised by his response as I have a business myself, I would never speak to a customer like this as the customer is always right. I then proceeded to order a steak as I thought this was a safe bet when the bill came. I was a little surprised to see that I was charged a full price for both meals. In total, we spent £150 . I think the owner is very rude and we will not be coming back again. We were made to feel very awkward and uncomfortable. Also, another member of staff actually said to us, it must’ve been...
