We went on the Master Distillers Tour and it was fantastic! We were given a gift voucher for Christmas and i can highly recommend this as a gift for anyone (gin lovers or not) Our tour party guide was Naomi and she was very informative, funny , entertaining and answered any questions with ease. Unfortunately due to some roof maintenance and repairs there was considerable scaffolding erected in part of the building but we were still able to view this area . It just hampered photos slightly. The history of the company and of gin itself was very interesting . The tasting was very well laid out in a very nice room/bar. We never thought gin could taste so different just adding water! Onto the gin producing area ( reminded me of school chemistry lessons!) and we tried some cocktails before mixing our botanicals and adding to the alcohol. It was great to see the mixture bubbling and rising up through the tubes and then condensing back into a collecting bottle as gin! Really looking forward to trying it ( recommended to leave it for 24 hours) After this we went to the relaxing bar for a complimentary cocktail of our choosing. (Our 9th gin!) Overall a very well presented and organised experience. We would definitely visit again as it was so informative and interesting...
Read moreI’d give this a miss. I’ve done a fair few distillery tours and this was by far the worst one I’ve ever been too.
It’s relatively informative but the tour guide we had was rough. She basically yelled at us the entire time like she was leading an outdoor river cruise with no microphone. There were “jokes” in the script and it felt almost like she was trained to do a high energy tour, but has been imprisoned here for decades and it has drained all life and energy out of her. So now, she regurgitates the words but emotionless. Like an animatronic animal from an 80s theme park.
The tour finished in about 40 minutes. The bar is fit out beautifully and the bartender was lovely. The gift shop was underwhelming and was manned by two ladies in the middle of a d&m and were all consumed.
I get that these tours are feeders to buy more stuff (booze, bric-à-brac, etc) but whoever is in charge needs to revamp this...
Read moreSmall, short tour visit, but great samples of gin. The first part is in the distillery, you are told to switch off cameras and phones. However there are no extractor fans in there and no distilling was taking place, so no fire risk!
As a scientist - I can assure you that a camera and / or a phone cannot create a a spark to ignite any form of alcohol or indeed petrol fumes at a petrol; station - it is just outdated old school, unresearched fables!
The gin is great - sadly no ingredient processing (imported) or bottling (that's in Essex) takes place, so the only thing that happens there now is the distilling of the mixed batch in a Victorian copper gas heated distillery kettle. The process is therefore not in the slightest bit carbon friendly and relies on intensive...
