Café YOLK — Restaurant in Reading

Outstanding. Breakfast tastes so good. Every single item on the menu is special. Even the baked beans taste great. Scrambled eggs, poached eggs, even the toast tastes amazing. Incredible service. All staff extremely friendly, helpful and polite and always smiling. They create a real buzz around the place. All customers really looked after. Get there early to avoid queuing but queuing is worth it for the food and service. Absolutely incredible. Wish they could open another location over the other side of town or extend menu to an evening option as I know it would be delicious. Exceptional!

I lost my review taking a photo that always happens gutted. I’ll start again with the lovely photo of the cafe yolk logo attached for info. It has been so special coming back here. Today the staff are from Poland 🇵🇱 big up Poland 🇵🇱 I was scared to come back but I don’t know why everybody has been so lovely - Roxy leading the way although she has a bad eye I’m a bit worried about, Sandra so lovely, and the nice lady who I’m really sorry I don’t remember her name has had a lovely baby and im so happy for her. All the lovely reading people are eating their lovely food. All the same traditions the Diet Coke, the lovely espresso, the baked beans and advacado, the Bread has changed but it’s still lovely like all the food, cafe yolk is the most special place on earth, it will always be special and you must come here. That’s why I wrote the song because it’s so great and the people are amazing. Regular reading people doing their job in the most special way. We love you cafe yolk. You are the best.

Also the coop across the road has not changed lovely staff. Cafe yolk always warmly welcome people at the door. They are always so kind. Somehow they fit everybody in even when there is a queue. They are so lovely with the customers.

The lovely lady with the baby is called Maria I’m glad I know her name now. The atmosphere is so great here. Also there are four people from Poland and I love Poland 🇵🇱 🇵🇱🇵🇱 big up Poland 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱 you can see the lovely logo on the tables. And I got to see Roxy and her dogs and they look so cute. I remember when Roxy looked after Alex’s dog.

They always say bye to the customers and clean the tables straight away. I think I’ll get another espresso because it’s so good. They are so kind they even gave me an espresso on the house. How amazing is that. The staff mingle when they’re not helping customers and they get on so well. There is a real team here. Led by Roxy. They are such a good team. They are such a good team.

They even have free water. And there are baskets for the napkins which are coloured like cafe yolk logo in black so everything matches. You can also see from the photo they will thd good food awards and you can see why. You must come here and try the food and experience the atmosphere. Now I have to try and find my way to church so I must leave this lovely place but it will always be in my heart and you must come here you just must.

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Yolk Café once again, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. Nestled in a cozy corner of the city, Yolk has quickly become my go-to spot for a perfect cup of coffee, scrumptious brunches, and an overall warm and welcoming atmosphere.

From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with the enticing aroma of freshly brewed coffee, beckoning me to explore the café's extensive menu. As a coffee enthusiast, I can wholeheartedly say that Yolk's brews are among the best I've ever tasted.

Lot of good reviews about this place so I decided to try. There was a bit of a wait outside, maybe 45 minutes however the staff kept us constantly informed of estimated time for seating etc. When we got seated and ordered, the food was great for the most part. We got the breakfast burger and fruit and yogurt pancakes to share between two. The breakfast burger was excellent. It is sausage, bacon, cheesy omelette and bun. And I have to say, the cheesy omelette was the highlight. Fluffy l and light and just wonderful. The rest of the burger was very good. And the herb potatoes were crunchy and comforting, perfect addition. We then get to the pancakes with yogurt and berries. The fruit and yogurt was excellent and again there was a highlight here. It is served with a berry jam/compote that was just one of the best I have tasted. However there was something that I found......... strange? I'll explain; the pancakes were not like regular pancakes. It took a while to figure out what they were like and finally it came to me. The pancakes looked like pancakes but tasted like and had the texture of scones! It was weird and disorienting because you expect a light fluffy pancake but get this dense, scone like creation. In saying that, they didn't taste bad but they were actually slightly undercooked (see pics). That was the only reason for four stars instead of five because everything else was very good. And just on that point I have to say that the staff were excellent and swift and really did a good job overall.
