DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTURANT. If I could give 0 stars I absolutely would. We came in after being highly recommended over House of Flavours (HUGE MISTAKE) and ordered about £55 with or food including butter chicken, sagaloo (potato spinach) and sag panir (cheese spinach), rice a second main dish and two naans. We ordered these things to take away, asked for it not to be spicy at all. Once we got home the food was inedible as it was so hot to the point of it being painful including the butter chicken and everything else in between, despite it being stated on the menu as mild. I have never seen my side dishes to be such a dark swampy colour and why was the food that hot?. Absolutely ruined a lovely date night. Do not waste your time trying to complain we sent an email and called several times with no answer. However when I did get through the manager by going in! She did not take it seriously and said she could do nothing to resolve the issue and was absolutely useless. This company is all about the money and doesn’t care about the customers. They are the most unhelpful inconsiderate resturant. And I will not be...
Read moreWent with family for a dinner. Indian food served with Kerala taste and spices. And they serve Halal meat. Nice ambience. Easy to identify from even heavy traffic.Nice and small restaurant with ample seating. Typical Kerala food !! Enjoyed every bit of Kappa(tapioca)biriyani and Kappa with fish curry was awesome. I tried Beef fry and beef ularthiyath. Both were excellent but I expected beef fry bit more dry than ularthiyath. Both went well with traditional appam. Kids also enjoyed appam and fish curry. Kappa biriyani (mutton) was pure tradition blend. Thalassery biriyani was not dum but rice was khaima small rice.Since we were in Thalassery before and tasted authentic one before , biriyani was not as expected, but was not bad. Kerala porotta was nice with beef.Masala tea was so good. Tried a mango lassi as well , and lassi was superb. What I felt fantastic was the serving speed . Never seen a hotel in Uk serving that quick. Very friendly and polite staff. Very pocket friendly restaurant. Will definitely visit again. Parking in the front of the shop is paid parking...
Read moreAs a keralite, I was optimistic when I heard of Pappadoms in Reading. Finally, a place I could enjoy some south indian cuisine.
But what I got with my family wasn't the food many reviewers seem to be claiming. For instance, we ordered kerala chicken fry and what we got was a coloured chicken 65 dish! for chapathi, we were given 1 chapathi for £2 that was rock hard and thick. Worse, it was burnt!
Nadan chicken curry was the special and what we got tasted like cooked chicken simply heated in a paste like chicken curry. It was bad. I was thoroughly dissapointed.
Maybe for those who aren't malayalees would find the food amazing, but here is an advice to my brothers and sisters. You won't get the kerala food you THINK you would here.
If I could tell you a positive, it would be the chicken and fried rice, for that, I give a 5/5 but don't expect an incredible biriyani, nadan chicken curry, kerala style chicken fry or chapathis that should be soft and not burnt here.
My hunt for a good kerala restaurant continues..and...
