The Forbury Gardens are like an oasis at the edge of Reading town centre. A place to sit & enjoy the sunshine and flowers, with free concerts in the bandstand most Sundays in summer. Also provide access to the historic Reading Abbey Ruins. The gardens are also increasingly used as a venue for occasional weekend food festivals, etc.

This is a Beautiful sculpture situated in the Forbury Gardens. I can only appreciate the sculpture for it's artistic value as I have I do not know any of the people it remembers although I am respectful of the fact that it does serve as a commemoration of the lives of fallen soldiers. All the more poignant after the attack in the Gardens last year, where three people sadly lost their lives at the hands of a murderer. And we must always remember that. Anyway the statue looks imposing even from a distance. And up close it doesn't disappoint. Although we can see some of the sculptors marks that would have been made in clay, the detail on such a large statue is wonderful. Every time I go I notice some new detail. On top of that it is just nice to see when walking around the Gardens or relaxing and the children to seem to be engrossed by it All in all it is worth a...
