Maiwand Lion — Attraction in Reading

This is a Beautiful sculpture situated in the Forbury Gardens. I can only appreciate the sculpture for it's artistic value as I have I do not know any of the people it remembers although I am respectful of the fact that it does serve as a commemoration of the lives of fallen soldiers. All the more poignant after the attack in the Gardens last year, where three people sadly lost their lives at the hands of a murderer. And we must always remember that. Anyway the statue looks imposing even from a distance. And up close it doesn't disappoint. Although we can see some of the sculptors marks that would have been made in clay, the detail on such a large statue is wonderful. Every time I go I notice some new detail.
