A nice enough looking cafe..... but reading at the reviews below I am not alone in observing: --- This cafe does not understand what a poached egg is ---
I ordered a Cappuccino (£3.80) and Smashed Avocado & Poached Eggs on Sourdough Toast (£12.50). This is at what I would consider the steep end of pricing for a cafe brunch. So, it needed to be good.
The Cappuccino arrived and was relatively meagre in size, not great value.
The Avocado/Eggs arrived and 'looked' beautiful. On cutting into the poached eggs they were solid through - no ooze.
I immediately took this back to the counter and said "I'm sorry, but at £12.50 I'm not happy being served solid poached eggs".
I was then utterly bemused when the waiter came back 1 minute later and said "I'm sorry but the chef has had a look at them and said that is how we serve poached eggs".
Astounded. A solid poached egg is a boiled egg.
The chef then came out to tell me that this was indeed how they "served poached eggs".
I was flabbergasted that these people are in the brunch/cafe game and think that this is acceptable.
In credit to the cafe, I was given a full refund for the food. However, I was stunned that there was no effort made to simply recook the dish and actually make a poached egg.
To refuse and state 'this is what a poached egg is' when you're charging £12.50 is utter madness. It It also speaks volumes that I am not the first customer to have the same experience.
I took my refund and went to Cote Brasserie in West Bridgford. There I ordered a Cappuccino (£3.50 - and larger), Smashed Avocado and Poached Eggs on Sourdough Toast (£11.50 - cooked to perfection,...
Read moreHaving arrived at a lovely looking café, we sat down and were welcomed by the owner showing a customer out almost manhandling them out of the building. We ordered our meal I had fried eggs and hashbrowns, well I think they were a kind of hash brown. My partner had poached egg on toast. We received our mail but no coffees that we had ordered my partners poached egg on toast were hard. I took these back and asked for some new ones, then when I started my breakfast, my fried eggs were completely hard so I took these back. After waiting a further 15 minutes our replaced meals arrived But my partners poached eggs were still hard. We asked for a refund on this meal and we were offered £5 for the egg element of the poached on toast. My partner was really hungry. We did say that we wanted to eat the meal but weren’t prepared to pay for it eventually I had to intervene and said please refund us for the whole meal which begrudgingly did. Really sorry for the waitress as I’m sure she reported to the boss who had previously shown customers out of the café. A couple sat next to us and had fried egg and bacon Sandwich, the lady had avocados on toast with poached egg. I noticed that both the gentleman fried eggs yokes and the ladies poached eggs yokes were hard. Such a shame because it was a lovely place but from the minute we got there we felt uneasy and it really took a lot to complain as we didn’t want the same kind of treatment as the previous customer had had. So if you like hard fried and poached eggs, then this is the place to go. We don’t, so we won’t...
