Over 40 years I have frequented the L&V and I have introduced many people over the years to this establishment - I have also taken many of my clients for meals there in the past.
I have organised and taken Christmas & birthday parties there for meals on many occasions over the years and I have always been well received by all of the past managers and their staff.
Whether it has been the football during the winter months or the cricket during summer I have always supported the Larwood & Voce with my custom and enjoyed it every time on every occasion - that is until the present manager took over some 18 months to 2 years ago.
Having run pubs and owning my own restaurant in the past I cannot understand how this person is allowed to manage such an establishment!!! - Without going into details of my own personal experiences with the man I would just like to say that I find his whole attitude tasteless – arrogant and bordering on the smarmy side.
I personally know of between 25 and 30 regular customers that had frequented the place for many years that he has had issues with and drove them away and lost valuable custom.
My present rating of the L&V right now is that of a 1* – with 1 being for the place itself – had I been marking it over previous years with previous managers, my vote would have been 5* plus.
At the moment I find no enjoyment in socialising there anymore and I have considered not returning until the manager has been replaced by a fit human being that befits such a popular establishment.
Not only is it myself that won’t be visiting again in the near future but the dozen or so friends that join me on each and every occasion. The 40+ customers that the present manager has driven away will reflect largely on the till takings but if the owners do nothing to replace a man that continues to drive customers away then more & more people will keep away and...
Read moreI have visited the L&V many times and consider it to be one of my favourite places for Sunday lunch. When it came to booking somewhere for Mother's Day this was by far my first choice. i called the pub around 3/4 weeks before to reserve a table. 6 people including a high chair, as I have a baby. I was told the only slot available was 1pm, so I took it. An hour or so later I was contacted saying there was a mistake and could we make it 12pm, no problem I took it. I was running late today, as I have a baby. My brother arrives at the venue to be told we didn't reserve a high chair. I 100% reserved a high chair, as I do wherever I go as I have a baby. As I'm on my way I contact the venue to explain that I definitely reserved a high chair, the man on the phone was very polite but there was no way to accommodating us. The rest of my family that were waiting on the pub said that the woman who they think may of been the manager, was nasty, vile and rude. She didn't care about our situation and wouldn't even try to help. I explained to the young man on the phone that we wouldn't even need a high chair for long, as soon as my baby had been fed I would transfer her to her pushchair. He asked this woman and she just kept saying no. I then explained to the man I had this booking for a few weeks, there was no way I could feed my child without the chair. No one cared. Unfortunately we couldn't stay for our reservation as my baby had no where to sit. At this point I'm in tears on the phone saying to the man I've now got to find somewhere else to go. My family in the meantime are at the bar and still the vile woman wouldn't help us. This experience completely ruined my first Mother's Day. I will not be returning. Luckily for us The Mud Crab welcomed us with open arms and repositioned a few things to get us in after we told them about our experience. That's how it...
Read moreVisited for Sunday lunch as a birthday treat for the mother-in-law. Had been meaning to visit for a while since we saw they as we had seen that they had won an award for their Sunday lunches. Be aware that the on-site car park is very small. That's not a criticism as its obviously beyond their control and there was plenty of spaces on the street not too far away but this was a quiet time of year so not sure how busy it gets in summer. No complaints about any of the staff we dealt with -- all friendly enough and helpful -- and there seemed to be lots of them around too. So, never had to wait more than a few minutes for anything. Two of us had the aged Sirloin, one had roast rib of Beef and one had roast lamb. We all enjoyed our meals and there was certainly plenty to go at. As the Moleface chain sells itself on 'Proper' food, the beef was all somewhat on the rare side. That's fine by me -- although a couple of the party commented that they would have preferred it a bit more cooked so worth bearing in mind. The L&V isn't a carvery, its served plated at your table and here is my dilemma - choice vs. quality. Overall, whilst the meal could not really be faulted I think I probably would lean towards the traditional carvery option where you have the ability to customise your meal. Still overall a nice meal if just a little pricey at nearly £20 for a...
