Myself and my girlfriend (Newcastle United fans) popped in here for a pint after the Womens match against Forest, to be met with the most bizarre excuse for a "manager" I've ever come across in three decades of happily, safely and quietly enjoying pubs all across the UK and the world. First, it was a Womens match, full of couples, families and kids. Secondly, before the game, there were at least 30 Newcastle fans in the pub wearing colours and all enjoying a few drinks and having some food without any issue, including us. But we came back after the match to be met with this sorry excuse for a "manager" who claimed (while mumbling) that there was a licence condition that prevented them serving away fans. He refused to consider this might only apply to Premier League games. Zero common sense. The guy who served us before the match was engaging and chatty but had to follow this "manager's" instructions. The bar lass next to them asked "how do I know who's an away fan?". I suggested we could nip to the loo and change into other tops but that just seemed to confuse this "manager" more. In the end, we quietly and politely left and went to the nearby Trent Navigation Inn who were more than welcoming and had some excellent beers on. This was such an awful experience and not typical of Wetherspoons. In Newcastle, away fans are welcome in every pub. I get that's not necessarily the case everywhere but this was a Sunday early afternoon Womens match. Totally...
Read moreBe aware this pub has CCTV in the ladies loos. Wetherspoons state that they can only see the communual area. This is not the case. Bearing in mind that I am a lady of pensionable age, I was not feeling too good and felt sick. I went to the ladies, closed the cubicle door and was violently ill. I returned to my seat and rejoined my friend also of pensionable age and a rather abrupt lady from behind the bar came over to our table, took our drinks and told us that she couldn't serve us anymore. She also said that she wouldn't bring us our food and would give us a refund. When we asked why, she said that she had seen me on CCTV being sick in the toilet. Considering that that I had closed the cubicle door, it proved that the CCTV must have been pointing inside the cubicle. We also couldn't understand why we had to leave, as neither of us were drunk or acting in an unsociable manner. We were then told that it was the pubs policy not to serve us. The staff were not concerned at all about me being unwell, especially as I'm in my senior years. After I told the lady I was not well, she said that she only had my word for that. I felt that I was being treated like some kind of drunk. But what really got my back up was thje fact that the CCTV can watch you while you are on the loo. Will not be returning to this pub. TERRIBLE!!
UPDATE: Have not recieved refund a month later, even though I have a till receipt stating the refund amount. Nothing has gone back...
Read moreAbsolutely appauled by the experience we encountered at this weather spoons. When we were ordering we were told there would be a 30 minute wait for food which we happily agreed to and went on to order our breakfasts. About 20 pounds and 50 minutes later we asked the bar tender how much longer the food would be as we had somewhere to be. He said about 10 minutes so we carried on waiting. 20 minutes after this (over an hour after our food was ordered) we asked a waitress if she knew how long our food was going to be, she said she would check for us but she didn't. We caught her attention again and asked her the same question, she became visibly irritated with us, she then asked (rudely) what we had ordered and went to check. She came back with one of the 3 orders which has obviously been sitting out a while and seemed to be re-heated. Nothing else came for another 20 minutes and by this point we had been waiting well over an hour and a half and needed to leave so we never got our food. We understand restaurants can get busy but the waitress was rude towards us and provided no information to the where abouts of our order. To be waiting over an hour and a half for something we were told would take half an hour...
