Food was okay, a bit fiddly with the hipster serving style trying to cut the pizza on a thin wooden 'pizza cooking tray' thing, and the chicken meal was a bit stacked up in a bowl instead of spread out more on a plate.
Toilets were a bit so so, there was no handwash available even when staff use the same toilets and should be able to tell, and it's apparently checked hourly, and cubicles are a bit difficult for some people to use with the limited door clearance. There isn't a dedicated disabled toilet, but they wouldn't need one, considering it is an older building abd already constrained with the physical design and entrance access anyway. They were clean, though. The male toilets were missing a sign, but I was directed to them by staff.
Entrance to building has large steps, and may be unsuitable for some people, but maybe there is a ramp available upon request. You'd have to check. My mother had difficulty using the large steps to get in and out. I know it's pretty difficult to retroactively make buildings like this more accessible, but maybe it's something to look at in the future.
Staff were polite and helpful, and came to serve us at the table when we were taking a while to decide. Brought drinks to the table, too, when I went back to the bar to order some more.
Music unexpectedly ramped up at 19:00, I guess that's when they want the casual diners to get out and leave room for the drinkers. 😅 Although, it seems like it was a special event night, as the DJ that appeared mentioned 'singles night'. Didn't exactly see a sign going in, but maybe we missed it. We just went in for food and a drink, though, so that wasn't for us.
Overall, a nice enough place to eat at, but I wouldn't say it's for special occasions or parties, but fine for casual hipster dining and a 'quieter' drink without being dead quiet like a pub in the countryside. Not exactly suitable for kids that are too young, just with the design of the place and the menu on offer, but they're welcome, at least earlier on in the day (I don't know if there's a kickout time or not). Probably not for you if you want 'pub' food, either, it's a bit...
Read moreIf there was an option for 10 stars, I would definitely give it to this place! What a lovely surprise it was for us to walk in to this lovely pub for the first time! We visited on a Sunday evening, the pub was filled with customers and there was a live singer. It had a nice small menu for a Sunday roast. As we are vegan, we asked whether there were any vegan options. We were offered chips or salad. However, after 5 minutes, Ined, the chef approached us. She said she was vegan too and would try to make us a lovely meal from the menu that would be fully vegan. She has given us a wonderful suggestion and stayed chatting for a while. Such a lovely, creative and accommodative person! We were absolutely privileged and I have to say it is a first place ever, where the chef has made an effort to come to us and offer a vegan alternative despite it not being on the menu. She used a meal from the menu and changed some ingredients to make it vegan, swopping mayo for humous. Ined has certainly gone an extra mile and it was so lovely to have met her. Such an inspiring lady! And the meal she has served us was divine!!!! So delicious that we asked whether we could order another portion as a take away. During the visit we were also served by the waiter, Christian, who offered great drinks but also told us about his beautiful art work. The Blind Pig has such unique and creative staff!
All in all, we had a fabulous time in the pub. I think it is going to become our favourite place to visit and will definitely recommend to all our friends and anyone we encounter :)
And many thanks to Ined for such a customer...
Read moreWhilst trying to attend the blind pig in monton, I was spoken to by a what I can only describe as a bully of a doormen. On trying to enter the doorman stopped me and stated he did not like the look of me and that I looked like trouble. He stated my clothing was not appropriate. He was extremely rude and obnoxious despite never attending the blind pig before and never having any interaction with this male I could only presume he was power mad, trying to impress giggling girls. After asking what was not appropriate about my clothing he told me abruptly to read the sign that was covered behind a door. To build a picture It was 2000hrs and i was wearing a hoodie top with jeans and boots. Just smart designer apparel that would be acceptable at any other "pub". The doorman was clearly discriminating against me and took a grudge against me. After asking to speak to the manager he blatantly told me this was not possible. Only 5 minutes later my friend went to the bar and requested to speak to the manger about the incident. She spoke to the "bully bouncer" and I was eventually allowed in. This totally ruined my night and I will never attend the blind pig and my friends will never attend again. I will also tell everyone i know about this issue. Obviously my money is not good enough for this establishment so therefore I will tell all my family and friends that this is an establishment that discriminates against people based on looks. Avoid at all costs unless you are dressed in clothing suitable for...
