Long story short: the venue itself was fantastic and the communication with Matt leading up to the event was great however on the night the team and Matt especially really let themselves down as they were incredibly rude and frankly incapable of doing their jobs.
On the day of the party (our 21st with all our family and friends) we were told that we could access the venue from 3pm which is when myself, my twin brother and our partners turned up to set a few things up. We called Matt as the venue was locked and he said he was running late, he allowed us to let ourselves into the venue however proceeded to be 50 minutes late, turning up with a seriously negative attitude telling us rudely that the confetti on the floor was the ONE thing he didn’t allow and that we needed to clean it up ASAP. First of all that was not communicated with us at all and it was also a tiny bit of confetti that had burst from balloons - he then went awol till the beginning of the party despite our many attempts to contact him.
During the evening it was all great and the crowd were all very civilised. Unfortunately as it was a 21st and there were many students there someone brought their own bottle of vodka which the team found. Matt decided it was appropriate to go and rudely tell my dad that this has happened and that it was his responsibility to find the person and kick them out. I understand why Matt was annoyed by this as it is the business’ licence on the line however it is their responsibility to take the precautions to make sure this doesn’t happen. When my dad responded to Matt with the reasoning that it was not his responsibility and that the venue should have been checking bags at the door Matt brought the bouncers over who proceeded to push him and tell him to get out. When my dad said no as it was completely unreasonable they called the police on him however thankfully this did not come to anything as it was a very unreasonable request. As this clearly annoyed the team they decided to close the bar early with no communication of last orders, they turned the lights on at 11:50pm when we had the venue till 12pm and then turned the music off at 11:55. The bouncers proceeded to rudely kick us out which rightly so put a huge downer on the end of the night. After this experience with the team I...
Read moreWe booked Box Hub for our wedding party a few weeks ago.
Pros: Stunning venue Excellent location Very much a blank space where you can add personal touches Good sound system
Cons: Our party was due to start at 6. We arrived about an hour beforehand. There were decorations and drinks glasses left over from the previous booking which weren’t cleared up until about 10mins before guest arrived and after saying several times to staff The “drinks reception” was about a dozen bottles of beer and the same of Prosecco (we’d paid for about 70) but no one was serving them and they ran out quickly so we had to keep telling the guests who arrived to make sure they got a reception drink We were talking to the manager about the sound system - there was about 30mins before the start and there were cables missing. These were sorted but I overheard the band talking about issues as well - by that stage we were so stressed we’d checked out. The manager kept leaving and so we had to keep phoning him to come back. The toilets were not cleaned in between the morning booking and our wedding party We were told there would be non alcoholic options e.g. beers and offered to bring these ourselves but was told this wasn’t needed. They didn’t have any on the night.
Overall the night went fine, the band and DJ were eventually sorted and we had a good time, but we felt like we were promised everything before but then had to push for the basics to be done - and even then they weren’t. It made was should have been an exciting start of the night welcoming guests into a stressful time of trying to make sure the space was tidy and that people had drinks, which shouldn’t really be our job as bride and groom. We’ve seen a lot of lovely weddings from the reviews which all seemed to go very well. It felt like ours wasn’t really as important to the venue, perhaps as we had booked for a half day. The staff didn’t pay attention or even acknowledge us at the start when we were trying to sort everything out. It just...

Boxhub double booked and cancelled my important family event with little to no correspondence. I wasted money on catering, invites, decorations, and had family travelling from far afield. The venue were incredibly unpleasant to deal with and made the experience extremely stressful.
Event management was incredibly poor. Throughout the booking process I received little to no correspondence. I provisonally booked the event 7 months ago. I found out my event was double booked only 8 weeks prior to when it was meant to take place after enquiring for details. The venue were quite happy to take my money without question. They explained they had no record of my booking. Boxhub's communication was terrible. They did not offer to phone me or send apologies from a senior member of staff. I was also not given reason why the other event went ahead over mine. Their response to my emails had no compassion, offering blunt and frank unhelpful replies. I was really hurt at how this was dealt with, all the while dealing with, and failing to, find an alternate venue for my event.
Boxhub offered alternative nights for my events (sundays or weekdays) with a minimal bar tab (amounting to about 1.5 drinks each). They still expected me to pay for venue hire. After wasting money on suppliers for my previously agreed event date, this offered no consolation. Having accepting fault for the mixup, I expected better compensatory measures. Instead they offered one of their quiet nights so they could make more money from my event.
As an events space, Boxhub should have dedicated, supportive and experienced events managers. It was clear from my experience, this is not the case. If planning to use this events space for an important life event, I strongly recommend a looking for an alternative venue with a more robust and trustworthy...
