I have been to Brett about two weeks ago with a friend and we didn't really enjoyed the venue. The atmosphere is a bit cold for a wine bar but still classy and clean. There's no menu, only a daily board, but you can't read it from your seat as it hangs in a corner behind the counter. We took a photo of it and then after we received some tasters from the bartender we ordered. Unfortunately the place is runned with only one chef and one bartender, plus a manager which was just standing not helping the staff at all. The guy behind the bar was professional and acknowledged and despite trying to give me some interesting infos about our 4 glasses didn't have the actual time/possibility to do it. Wine was organic and natural, bit funky but great and different from any other bar in Glasgow. We ordered some simple food, 2 portions of focaccia (very flat and underproofed) with beetroot hummus (which was just beetroot puree with med east spices) and a cod roe taramasalata (tasty, white, beautiful).
Portions are small but the problem is the execution, 5/6£ for 4 tiny cubes of focaccia, it better sing!
4 small glasses of wine set us at 35£. Quality of the wine was good and different from anywhere else, again 10£/small glass from a 13/15£ bottle sounds a bit too much.
I ll give it another try in a month or so to see if it was just an...
Read moreThis week we visited Brett, wine bar & restaurant on Great Western Road. Glasgow. When we arrived we received a warm welcome from all of the staff and were shown to our table, great start. Our server was extremely knowledgeable of everything they had to offer, without being overbearing, a credit to the business. The A La Carte menu is different and quite adventurous. They also have a fixed price three course menu which represents good value for money. We opted for the Chateaubriand for two which was perfectly cooked, succulent, and tender. The dessert, Pink Lady Apple Tarte Tatin, was one of the best desserts I had ever tasted. This is a very cheffy restaurant which you may find overwhelming at times if you're not used to this type of dining. Though on the expensive side, we did feel it was good value for money based on the quality of the food. Cocktails were also excellent. Several reviews complain about a service charge being applied to the bill, but you do get complimentary still and sparkling water provided. Overall a most enjoyable experience and I'm sure we'll be returning for more in the near future.
Well done to all the staff at Brett and thank you for a...
Read moreHad dinner on a Friday night and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. We tried the sourdough crouton appetiser with olive and anchovie, chicken wings and clams, the beetroot and blackberry and the special which was a 45 day aged sirloin steak with cafe de paris butter and the potatoes and cabbage sides. The food was incredible, every single dish was 10/10 but the steak was the star it was pretty special and big enough for two people to share. We also tried the strawberry sorbet with creme freche and the and the whisky coffee liqueurs. Service was excellent and we sat at the counter and you're able to watch the chefs do their thing right in front of you. It's not a gimmick like a lot of restaurants were the just assemble the food in front of you that's been cooked out of sight, you really get a front row seat in to workings of a high end kitchen and it was cool to watch. Watching the steak getting seared and cooked on the charcoal grill was a nice touch. There's a good selection of drinks and wine but the wine was very expensive but the price of the food is fair when you see the skill involved and the quality of...
