I’m visiting Ayr, and I wanted to have a really nice meal whilst here. I glanced at the reviews for this restaurant and was expecting a very nice experience. What I got was a very mediocre experience. I ordered soup to start which had clearly been microwaved to death as it was scalding hot. It didn’t taste particularly interesting and came with a small piece of tired, looking bread and a plastic container with the butter in. In a restaurant, I would expect the butter to be served in a little dish. The pasta I ordered for the main course was extremely basic and thrown onto the plate. The sauce had one mushroom chopped up in it. It’s something I could’ve knocked up at home in five minutes. When I arrived I was asked to hurry up and order because the kitchen was closing, this was at about 8:30/ 9 o’clock and it made me feel really uncomfortable. I felt that some of the waiting staff were rushing me and to top it all off, I was served the wrong drink. I should’ve said something at the time, but I couldn’t be bothered as I only realised it was the wrong drink when I checked the menu after I had drunk most of it (cocktail). The service charge is not included because I would’ve been annoyed at paying for that. With a lot more finesse this could be a...
Read moreShockingly rude attitude from manager of restaurant. Had table booked for brother's 30th and got call from manager saying that he would have to cancel due to having a wedding party coming in that he "just couldn't pass up" despite our table being booked first and that he would try and fit us in if possible only for him to then call back and say it wasn't a wedding after all and he could just sit us at the same table for this party that was coming in. Never mind that covid is still a thing and we don't want to share a table with random strangers. That is not acceptable at all, shows very poor, money grabbing attitude, no idea how many other people's reservations he thought it was ok to just cancel for no real reason. Will not ever be going to this restaurant again because they obviously don't actually care about their customers. Very very rude and disappointing. Hope it was worth it and hope he lost the other customers he cancelled as well due to "just not being able to...
Read moreThis restaurant tried to kill me.
Maybe that's too much, but I am at least chalking up my visit to Cecchinis as a near death experience.
Let's start with the starters. My prawn Gamberoni looked and tasted as if it was cooked at the centre of the Earth. The garlic and chilli was burned to such an extent that it felt like I was eating out of an ash tray that had been lying about since the Beatles broke up.
There was certainly know fun in the Funghi either. If anyone wants to discover the strange tastings of blended stray cat then this is the meal for you!
The meatball main course was quite the journey too. The meat had been so polluted with salt that it caused a dehydration event in my girlfriend and aged her 70 years. I must say I was amazed that something that usually takes years of abuse of sunbeds was achieved in less than 10 minutes....
