Sadly cannot give zero stars for we certainly would!
We waited a year to visited this restaurant as previous visit to Scotland it wasn’t able to accommodate us...
Surrounding are pleasant enough but our experience ended there!
Firstly upon asking what drinks we’d like, being a ‘seafood’ restaurant we asked for a bottle of white wine from the wine selection... moments later we where advised, sorry ‘it’s popular’ and has all gone! Our table was at 8pm... so we chose another, to be advised yet again they didn’t have that either as it was popular too! Surly if you have a ‘popular’ wine because it’s a seafood partner and often requested then logic would say stock plenty!
Anyhow we ordered a third alternative and awaited starters! Fish cakes and scollops... upon service both didn’t impress... very underwhelming! Raising questions and a shared raised eyebrow...
Fears were soon realised when mains where served! Baked Cod and Fishmans broth, the cod looked like it had been simply boiled, soggy skin and a plate full of water... dry potatoes and uncooked asparagus! But the fisherman’s broth was appalling! The whole point of a broth is it’s the star of the dish... in this case it was tepid fishy water with a few chucks of salmon and some mussels!
Sent both back, yes offered alternatives but as menu is somewhat limited and some dishes the near as the same (one baked cod one baked haddock) we lost all faith in any alternative... and had lost heart at the disappointment.
Paid what was due and left... do hope our experience was simply unfortunate one but sadly can’t rate it other...
Read moreReally looked forward to going to this restaurant but was disappointed with the food. The restaurant is very atmospheric wonderful setting and lovely inside.Staff are very nice and welcoming. The menu is a little expensive for the dishes. I had crabtart for my starter £12.50 small peice of quiche with flaked white crab meat on top.nice but lacked flavour of brown meat served with some slivers of. apple. My husband had the mackeral which he said was very nice. Mussels were our main .we both had them they came in a large bowl each. They were covered in raw chopped onion nice if you like a lot of onion. The sauce which was supposed to be white wine garlic and cream was basically very bland and lacked substance just like some cream in a bowl why couldn't the onions have been sauted in the sauce. When I questioned the waitress she said this how Mussels were served I beg to differ as I have had mussels in many countries never served like this always with a nice flavoursome creamy garlic sauce and bread to mop it up with.No bread either I eat mainly fish so I do know what I'm talking about. The other diners food looked ok so may be we chose wrong but at £18 a bowl these could have been better . We thought this was going to be a really good experience as we had to leave card details to book we thought it was going to be exceptional not so London prices for...
Read moreThe basics for a fish restaurant should start with FRESH fish…! And, of course, courtesy.
There is always a little bit of fear, when coming back to a place where you got on well… that things may have changed… Unfortunately so was for us in this place, and I have to RECONSIDER MY OPINION on this restaurant.
It’s still a very NICE AND PLEASANT SPOT, in a PERFECT LOCATION on the pier; but this time the food was, however good on average, not excellent.
We ordered LANGOUSTINES, and 3 ON 6 WERE SOFT… meaning NOT FRESH!
WAITERS follow on being very EFFICIENT AND SMILING, but the OWNER was quite RUDE with me, when I went out for a cigarette with my glass of wine…
I simply didn’t know that it was forbidden, because it never happened to me before in Scotland, or in this restaurant (I did the same last year, and nobody told me anything)! I always respect local customs and rules, and would have appreciated the same respect towards me, just a little bit of courtesy.
Price per value (langoustines...
