We booked a table at Gidi Grill recently and had a generally lovely experience.
My wife ordered the prawn starter and the sirloin steak with burger sauce, whereas I opted for the lamb starter, and a rump steak, with jerk sauce and my 3yr old son had fish goujons with french fries.
I was undecided between their green chilli sauce and their jerk sauce, so when I asked for a small taster, they happily obliged in order to help me decide.
The starters were absolutely impeccable... and they were presented well on their respective plates. The prawns were just right - not overcooked and 'rubbery' - and the lamb starter was flawless. They arrived in a timely manner within 10-15 minutes, and were devoured so quickly that I didnt have a chance to take a photograph of them. My son loved his fish goujons and fries too, which were conveniently served alongside our starters.
My wife's steak arrived as requested - well done - and although I requested mine to be medium, it was more of a medium rare. I raised this politely with the waiting staff, and they were happy to oblige, returning my now medium steak to me within a few minutes.
An overall very fine dining experience was had by all, albeit with a few minor niggles. When we arrived, i felt we could have been seated, a tad sooner as I did see 2-3 staff lingering around the front seemingly unoccupied. And, although we had finished our starters before the main course was ready, it was served before the plates and cutlery from the starters were removed, causing alot of congestion on the table. Usually the mains are served once the table has been completely cleared of the previous course. And finally when we requested another drink (a coke) our waiter went to order it and seemed to start doing other things (clearing tables etc). After 5 minutes (which felt like 15 because i was really thirsty and had already finished my first drink) i asked him again, only to be told it was on it's way, after which it did arrive after a couple of minutes.
But as I said earlier, these issues were minor, and if they were not a part of my experience, Gidi Grill would recieve 5/5 starts from me, however I feel that, although 4 stars give an accurate reflection of my experience, I would have given 4.5/5 if that were possible. All in all, our food was absolutely delicious! If i could give it a standing ovation, I would. It was worth every penny, and we'd highly recommend their steaks as well as their prawn and lamb starters. We'll definitely be back to check out the rest...
Read moreNot great, very expensive. £168 for 3 people only 5 drinks included in this price 3 alcoholic drinks and 2 coffees. Waitress was nice tho, lamb starter wasnt touched waitress asked how it was explained my daughter didn't like it as she expected it to be hot lamb and not like lamb jerky. For the mains asked for steaks with no salad ect, came with salad and steaks were uncooked and had to be sent back, not sure if the grill was maybe too hot as when steak came back half was cooked medium well and half welldone on the same steak, didn't send it back again as it was edible at £36 you would expect it cooked to perfection and tasty. Daughter didn't enjoy her steak as it tough and not the best. Was surprised nothing was taken off the bill considering her full lamb starter went back. Very overpriced for what you get. Shocking that they charged 9.50 for a gidi blossom drink that was in a martini glass, expect a decent sized glass for that price, actually felt quite scammed with that one. Definitely better steakhouses in Dundee and surrounding areas, Should of stuck to Porters or Balgrove. Only really good thing about the meal was the sauce and the chips, won't be back.
Follow up reply - we complained to the the waitress about the lamb not being as expected. The cocktails were healthy over priced. There nothing dishonest about my review, I actually gave you a decent review considering I felt practically ripped off by your overpriced food and drink. To say you offer value is laughable. Rather than taking on board any criticism from customers in person or via review, you go on the defensive. You'll last a lot longer in these tough times for restaurants if you listen to your clients. I gave you honest feedback, you didn't like it and came back with a very unprofessional reply. Customer service also clearly isn't a strong...

Overall, I feel a 4 star rating is about right, however I'd probably give it a 3.5 star if possible.
The atmosphere and décor of the restaurant is really nice and a perfect atmosphere for a nice relaxed meal, or a birthday I'd say.
Drinks wise, disappointing to not have any draft beer although I did see a tap on the bar. However good selection of bottles and nice to see some craft beer in keeping with the cuisine. Eko Gold and Black were both delicious.
Food wise I had the meat basket and my first comment was that it was extremely good value. I was worried the steak in it was going to be a cheap cut that they'd thrown in to bulk it out, however it was tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The chicken in it was also moist and delicious. The pork chop and sausage in my opinion were bland, and the sausage especially to me was not a 'jerk' sausage but tasted like a normal Cumberland. I think those two elements could be replaced with something more in keeping with the cuisine, perhaps a couple of ribs? The BBQ sauce was absolutely delicious and definitely tasted homemade, and the chips were okay too.
The thing which held everything back was the confused service. It was not slow, and they were attentive however, I lost count of the number of different waiters we had. I think they were all just too keen to help out, however it felt like there was a lack of any form of structure. We were asked things multiple times by different people (for example 3 of us showed up, and were waiting on the other 3, however we had to explain we were not ready to order food as we were waiting on other people to multiple different waiters).
Overall, a good experience, but definitely areas for...
