We’re in Glasgow this week for a special convention and couldn’t wait to get in and try some of the world famous Indian food the city has to offer. We were told that Green Gates was a great place to try. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy the “tapas” style menu, but in the end actually really enjoyed it, because it allowed us to try smaller portions of several different dishes. We ended up getting the classic Delhi style tikka, butter chicken, chicken biryani, and chili garlic chicken. We also ordered an extra side of white rice and a garlic naan. What we really appreciated is that they time it just so, so everything comes to the table at the same time, this way you’re able to sample everything on your plate at the same time without having to wait many minutes between dishes.
As for the food… WOW! An explosion of flavors in everything we ate. The chicken from the tikka was so soft and tender, the butter chicken was so creamy and well seasoned, the biryani was slightly crispy and so well seasoned, and the chili and garlic chicken in my humble opinion was the star! Spicy, perfectly seasoned and tender and was just so delightful. All the dishes were piping hot and just off the stove and nothing was lacking in taste, everything was executed perfectly! Oh let’s not forget the naan… it was soft in the middle with some crispy edges (just the way I love it!).
Service was also impeccable! They tended to us hand and foot, making sure we weren’t missing anything. They came over several times to check in on us and make sure we had what we needed. Everyone we interacted with was very pleasant and polite and extra helpful. If you are looking for amazing food, at decent prices, with really great service and attention to detail, then look no further. I don’t think you’ll be...
Read moreThis is a gem of a hideaway i've wanted to visit for some time. It's situated on right hand side of Candleriggs just off Trongate. There is no huge restaurant frontage just a doorway.Inside, this place is what i have always wanted to be, long and thin or should i say narrow. The atmosphere is amazing, comfortable and welcoming with lovely cozy booths.Staff were very helpful and friendly. The owner introduced himself very politely and offered us the opportunity to sample a new Spicy, creamy tomato soup they were testing. It was delicious. Let me state that this is a quality establishment the unique decor tells you this the moment you enter. Everything felt so right, my friend and i went crazy and we had the works. Poppadums and spiced onions ok same as ever but we like them. Then menu wise, there are lots of uniquely different things to try.Chicken Tikka and potato pakora and Honey, chilli potato wedges were really tasty followed by Chicken Biriyani served with a lovely separate medium curry sauce and Mutton Patia with rice were beautifully cooked and presented. This was accompanied by a properly layered Paratha and a thin, crisp tandoori Roti. All very delicious.Peace and quiet allows for good conversation whilst dining,a major plus.Nice place to take a lady of your choice or perhaps someone else's choice😳for a romantic meal or any special occasion.A thoroughly enjoyable culinary experience the cost of which, for all this was £53 On sundays from 2pm the restaurant serves special Thalis, similar to spanish tapas. Good way to brighten up a...
Read moreGreen gates cafe is a nice restaurant. I have been previously but my partner hadn’t. We were greeted and sat at our table promptly. The staff were friendly and attentive. The lady came over to take our order but didn’t write anything down. We did order quite a few dishes as it is tapas style, this lead me to think how could she remember it all off by heart and sure enough, some aspects of the order was wrong so I would say that was one negative of the visit. It was small issues like I asked for an additional portion of mango chutney with the starter dish but it never arrived. One of the curry’s brought over was honey garlic chicken which we didn’t order either. Once we did get our dishes we were happy with the food and enjoyed it. The honey chilli wedges are absolutely out of this world. I could sit and eat just these all night. Desserts were nice and it was good value for money. I wish the menu had a little more variety of traditional Indian curries on the tapas menu as we didn’t want to ask for a special request but couldn’t see it on the menu so we just went without. It would have been good to see a chicken korma or something along those lines for a tapas curry to go nicely with the nan. We did enjoy and would probably return in the future. It wasn’t absolutely amazing that I would rush back but...
