I recently visited a Japanese restaurant in a small city and was pleasantly surprised by the nice ambiance of the place. The decor was tasteful and created a relaxing atmosphere for a meal. I tried the salmon and prawn tempura roll and the unagi roll. While the taste was reasonably good, the fish wasn't the freshest and the rice was slightly overcooked. This did take away from the overall experience, as fresh fish is a key component of Japanese cuisine. Another issue was the price - the rolls were slightly overpriced for what they were, especially considering the freshness of the ingredients. Overall, while the restaurant had a nice ambiance and the food was decent, the overcooked rice and lack of freshness in the fish were a bit of a letdown. Additionally, the slightly high prices made it hard to justify the cost for the quality of the food.

Koku Shi is a average size restaurant maybe with a seating capacity of 50. We were first met with the traditional local mask but the smile from our host was visible in his eyes. Koku Shi is well laid out with plenty of space to enjoy your meal and as you do, look at other people's choices of delicious food. We began with the octopus balls( can't remember the name), it was amazing. The flavours slowly released from the ball leaving a explosion of ginger and maybe a spice. A donburi, a seafood ramen and pork ramen which was truly cooked to perfection. The wait was worth it as it gave time to admire the decoration and talk. I would highly recommend Koku Shi for a special and authentic Japanese meal. Thank you very much for now being my new favourite restaurant. Highly recommended by me.

Worst dining experience in a long time, place is nice inside good decor menu is extensive but the service is horrendous sat for 20 minutes not even offered a drink while we waited I cannot recommend this place at all. The staff were overwhelmed getting takeaway deliveries ready diners inside were just not looked after another diner had to go up to the bar and ask for bill because she had a life to get back to, I can relate! Went to cafe taboo more diners inside but we got served almost instantly offered water straight off the bat and a tasty bread basket while we wait for our order. So in short won’t be revisiting anytime soon, can’t recommend to others 😕

We have had take away and dined in at koku shi in perth. It has always been very enjoyable quality food. With a pretty extensive menu choice

However

My honest review of our only dine in experience is unfortunately one of some dissapointment. The restaraunt is nice and there's a buzz of constant activity and thats all good n fine. However we had trouble attracting attention of staff to get drinks both after arrival and seating, and during the meal. I would hasten to add all the staff we encountered were very polite and helpful, it's just that I don't think they could cope with how busy they were, every single member of staff looked super busy. This had the unfortunate effect that we were reduced to calling out to passing staff in an attempt for service. Despite waiting around twenty minutes with empty plates and glasses after our mains, and even after calling out and getting the attention of staff so we could ask for some refreshments they failed to arrive. we were then left waiting again unattended until we eventually decided to skip dessert and get something at home. Again unfortunately having to make an effort to get attention for the bill. Staff were very apologetic, I believe genuinely at the service we had, or didn't in our case. Iv no idea if they were short staffed or just busier than normal, there is certainly alot of people coming in to collect take aways(I'm not surprised it's luvley food). I'm giving 4 stars on a shoggily peg, I wouldn't normally be that star generous after similar experience, however purely as we really enjoyed the food, and staff were all very pleasant, during our brief interactions, and despite our less than great experience I feel we just got unlucky and got them on a rare bad night. We'll give em another go...

Went in for a lunch yesterday, as a walk-in, place looks nice inside, however, got approached by a waitress, who asked how she could help, I asked if we could get table for two, to which she replied 'no' and didn't show us anymore interest. I understand that the place was busy, people had booked tables in advance, but she sounded so rude. She could have at least apologise and advice when is it better to come back or briefly explain that we should call/book online in advance or whether we could perhaps have some food to go. Update 4th Oct 2020 Following up, I have sent an e-mail on 13th of September but still awaiting reply from the owner. The standard of customer service is like I sensed during my first visit - very, very low. Please see the e-mail below.

Dear Koku Owner,

Thank you for your reply to my review. I obviously can see other positive reviews about your place (hence why I wanted to visit in first place), however MY experience was still very negative. I am not sure why you would think this was misunderstanding, because I don't believe it was. What did the waitress misunderstand? The waitress was either unprofessional or simply didn't care because you were already busy anyways. There are plenty good restaurants in Perth and Dundee, where I never felt ignored or well misunderstood if that's what you prefer to call it and I will think twice before coming to your little...

I very rarely leave low star reviews, this review is intended to help someone who might be wondering if the cost to food quality/service ratio is worth spending on for a special Occassion etc.

I was aware this restaurant was expensive before going but as a lover of Japanese food and especially sushi I had to find out when I came back to my home town and was excited to see this place.

Honestly for sushi in a small city in Scotland I would say it is decent, however I do feel I’ve had better sushi rolls for equivalent of £4 in other places compared to the all £11 rolls here. We tried a range of other things on the menu but came to the same conclusion that better could be found elsewhere, which is fine but makes the high prices harder to swallow! I understand cost of living is high and I know business are not getting a break on their electric and bills, however I really feel the mark up is too great for this to be justified here. We went for lunch and it seems from other reviews they maybe turn the service charm up more in the evening, we found staff polite but it was more of an “oh well seeing as you’re here” vibe. I might try again if prices level out but this review is not intended to be nasty, it really is just to help those who might be wondering if it is something they...
