A bright & clean place with seating for dining in. Ordered food at the counter & was handed a key fob type of gadget. Sitting at the table, this gadget sounded an alarm with lights flashing. I'd no idea what was going on. The man who was cooking came over to the table & gruffly told me my food was ready. I asked, "Am I meant to collect the food myself," to which he answered yes. I was waiting for my husband to come back as he went to the toilet, which incredibly means you have to go out of this place & go to the hotel next door which is part of the same business. In the meantime, the woman who was behind the counter brought the food out to me. This woman was slightly happier than her co-worker. When I saw what was on the tray, I wasn't happy. Food was served on a paper plate & the cutlery was a flimsy looking plywood type of cutlery. This 'cutlery' made it hard to eat the food properly. I'd ordered a tea & that came out in a cardboard cup. The coke wasn't in a glass but a bottle from the fridge. This 'restaurant/chip shop may as well have told us to cook the food too. I've never been in a place where you're expected to collect your food & have no proper crockery or cutlery. I can understand slightly using paper plates, etc, to help the environment, but i just expect proper crockery & cutlery in a restaurant. If I'd known this was how it would be served, I'd have turned & left. We paid nearly £35.00 for the privilege of eating food off a paper plate, etc. Their overheads must be lower than a conventional restaurant as theres little washing up to be done. I'd have got better service at a seaside stall. There was no atmosphere in this place either. I gave 3* for the food as the fish was absolutely beautiful, with lovely crisp batter, but the chips were mediocre at best. I'd definitely not return to this place as it wasn't worth the money as it's more a 'do it yourself' than a restaurant. It's also not that friendly either. I'd have been better going into one of the hotels close by to have a meal with service as it wouldn't have cost too much more.

Can't understand the hype about this place. Might not be able to see in the picture but the chips had lots of bad bits & were under-cooked, fish & sausage were way too greasy (swimming in oil), the latte was not latte; just bitter instant coffee. My mum and I were ill after eating here, even though we didn't eat a lot of it. Overpriced for what it is. Also, what's with the wooden cutlery? Splits easily and cuts your mouth if you're not careful. The people serving are also very rude. The men at the counter were having a conversation for 5 minutes before bothering to ask what we wanted. Furthermore, they gave us a random button, which we only found out later, means you have to go back to the counter and pick up your food when it beeps. However, the people working here don't bother to communicate, they just stare and point with their fingers. Would never bother again.

You can't make a chip butty with brioche buns!? We were heading up to Inverness and stopped off at Pitlochry for a bite to eat. Mackays looked busy, clean and bright so we decided to pop in. You are given a choice to eat in or take away so we decided to eat in I ordered 2 rolls with my meal, looking forward to a chip butty. We were given a pager and told to return when it alerts us that our food was ready. So that's why I've given 1 star for service... there was none. Then... They were brioche buns! Who on earth thought that it was a good idea to use "sweetened" bread with traditional fish and chips? 🤷‍♂️ Add that it was £30 and I would say I was disappointed. Sorry, next time I am in Pitlochry, I'll go elsewhere.

This place is very unsanitary please do not go. I’ve found a hair AND a fingernail in my fish supper today. The hair was definitely not mine as it was too short, and the nail is also definitely not mine as none of my nails appear to be broken. This is absolutely outrageous. I was just trying to enjoy my pickled onion and last remaining chips when I bit into my pickled onion when I felt something hard in my mouth. It was a the said fingernail. Then I see a hair in my chips which looks nothing like my own. Two in one? Absolutely repulsive. The portion sizes are abysmal and extremely over priced just to find left overs from the human who has put it together. £12.50 for a greasy slab of fish and 20 odd chips (sometimes includes finger nails and hairs)! Yes definitely my idea of an ideal meal. Not. Absolute rip off. I will not be coming back ever again and have pictures of the finger nail in the box that unfortunately managed to make its way to my mouth. Save yourself time and money and don’t go here. I’m so disappointed and furious. Do you seriously not cut your nails? It wasn’t even a glamorous nail it looked like it had a fungal infection. How dare you make a horrendously small meal and add your hair and nails then charge me £12.50 for it. Next time minus the hair and nails and add the gloves, better hair nets, hats, and and some medicine for fungal infected nails. These five star reviews are clearly just the employees on different accounts. I’m praying for everyone who orders out here in the future. Good luck I hope you don’t choke on a finger nail stuck to your...

I have been here before and everything was good but this time it was a disaster from start to finish. I was not able to pay by cash due to COVID and when I pointed out that it is illegal to refuse the queen / kings currency in this country and also that they are alienating customers they were not bothered at all. While I was waiting for my buzzer to let me know to pick up my food I asked where the toilets were and was astonished to find out that I had to leave the premises and take my receipt with me to the hotel next door, show my receipt to them and then they would let me use their toilets!! WOW! Anyway, I was more than ready for my meal but when I got it it was cold, the chips were hard at the edges and barely look warm, the black pudding was cold on the outside but warm in the middle. Naughty naughty! The service was non-existant and the cutlery was wooden throw away items. Now, for a sit in chippy/restaurant this is appalling. I certainly will not be back near the place. I can see by one thing being not quite right but the whole thing being not right then I have to say this - AVOID THIS PLACE! I AM NOT LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER TO THIS AS I FOUND A LOVELY WEE CHIPPY ALONG THE ROAD THAT DOES FANTASTIC FOOD THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. "THE PLAICE", is a real treat and I would recommend this place to anyone who loves the chippy, unfortunately you are unable to sit in but it is well worth standing...
